You Belong With Me
Chapter Five

“What is Plan S?” I asked Heechul and Leeteuk.

Heechul patted my head as if I was a child. “You’ll find out in the future,” she said in a sing song voice. I swatted her hand away as a feeling of absolute dread settled in the pit of my stomach. I thought about threatening some well calculated violence, but they were saved from my wrath as the teacher called us back to order. As I trudged back to my corner of the theater, I sent Leeteuk a look, letting her know that this was far from over.

After practice my attempts to pry information from the unwilling were once again foiled. Leeteuk had grabbed Eunhyuk’s arm and skipped off with her to supposedly inform Sungmin of his sister’s new relationship. If she hadn’t given me a secretive smile over her shoulder I might have believed that was all she was doing. I do believe that I have never given Leeteuk the proper credit.

She knew I wouldn’t come pester her for details when Sungmin was right there. If I started asking questions, he would want to know what we were talking about. That would give Leeteuk the perfect opportunity to spill my little secret.

Much to my dismay she was spending the entire weekend at Eunhyuk’s. My guess was that she was fully aware I had planned to sneak over and force Eunhyuk to spill details the moment she was unsupervised. Leeteuk stuck to her like glue. Every time I got close to pulling Eunhyuk aside, she would appear out of nowhere and glue herself to Eunhyuk’s side. Like I said, I have never given her enough credit.

By the time Monday rolled around, I had no more idea what Plan S was, then when it had been announced. Clearly it was time for me to devise a new strategy.

In homeroom I sat by Siwon. That morning I carefully worked the conversation around to the subject. “About this strange plan Heechul came up with,” I prompted.

“Sorry Kyuhyun,” he said in a way that made me believe he really was. “I promised Heechul I wouldn’t say anything.” I knew right then and there he would be keeping that promise. That is just how Siwon was.

Hankyung, when I asked him in the hall after homeroom, had simply looked at me and said, “I don’t understand your language.” I really didn’t have anything to say to that since I wasn’t sure if he was being serious or not, he was a Chinese exchange student after all. By the time I had worked out a response he was down the hall and safe with Heechul.

At lunch I decided that I didn’t have enough money to buy the food and sugar required to bribe Donghae and Shindong. Zhoumi wouldn’t give me any information either since she was Heechul’s wing man, or woman as the case may be. I almost got Henry, the quiet boy from the orchestra, to spill, but then Heechul swept down and ruined that too. Kibum, one of the lead actors in our musical, just offered me a slightly mischievous smile and continued to eat his lunch. I knew from experience - particularly from an instance in which Sungmin and I spent two and a half weeks pulling pranks each other - that it would be impossible to make him talk if he didn’t want to.

I caught Ryeowook and his girlfriend Yesung in the hall during passing period. Ryeowook simply looked excited and wouldn’t say anything in response to my question. In his defense he might not have quite understood what I was trying to say since his family had only just arrived from Korea this year. Yesung on the other hand was born and raised here so there was no excuse for the smirk she sent me. I was feeling more and more like I might not really want to know what this plan was after all.

I cornered Kangin in the middle of PE. “You are going to give me some answers,” I ordered.

He shook his head, “Not going to happen Kyuhyun. Heechul threatened to rip off my balls and while you might come up with a more creative threat, I know Heechul would actually carry hers out.” Apparently I needed to be a bit more forceful with my threats or something.

He was the last of the people that I knew would know the information I sought, so by the time I arrived at practice I still had no idea what Plan S was. Instead of allowing me to head to my corner, the teacher gestured everyone to the front.

“As all of you should know, shortly after we perform the musical, we start working on our spring talent show,” she told us. I watched simultaneous smirks spread over Leeteuk and Heechul’s faces. I gulped. Why did I get the feeling that Plan S was directly related?

“This year I would like each and every one of you to plan something to do for the show. Our theme is around the world, so I expect a showcasing of special talent specifically related to our theme. Now let’s carry on!”

Leeteuk and Heechul smirked at me. I glared. “Don’t even think about it.”

“Don’t worry Kyuhyun, we aren’t,” Leeteuk told me sweetly. It didn’t make me feel any better.

The next several weeks were a flurry of activity as the opening day for the musical loomed on the horizon. Surprisingly things fell into place with smooth ease. The set was done in plenty of time for a dress rehearsal. No one had hurt themselves either so the rehearsals went smoothly.

Opening night had just about everyone, crew and cast alike, in a frenzy of anticipation and worry. Despite that, nothing too significant happened. Heechul almost face planted in the second number and I was forced to bite my lip to stop myself from cracking up. She recovered gracefully thought and I doubt that the audience was ever aware it was not intentional.

Compared to the first show, the rest were pulled off even easier. I was told that this phenomenon was relatively unheard of in the world of theater. I didn’t complain. It made my job even easier. The night after the last show there was a cast party that even I attended. Hanging out all night and playing games with everyone was a decently good time. I must say it was made indefinitely better as everyone decided to place bets on how many times they could get Eunhyuk and Donghae to kiss. Sungmin won with a grand total of 36.

When Monday came around, I couldn’t decide if I was relieved or disappointed that there would be no more practices to attend. It had become part of my routine everyday. On top of that I was learning to love being around the entire theater group.

“Are you coming this afternoon?” Eunhyuk asked me as she leaned against the locker beside mine.

I pulled out the books I would need for homework that night and stuffed them into my bag. “To what?” I asked.

“To the informational meeting about the talent show of course,” she said as if I should know that already.

“Oh. I don’t think so. I don’t really have a talent to show,” I closed my locker and slung my bag on my shoulders.

“Come on just come!” she begged as she wrapped her arms around one of mine. She half dragged me to the room, completely ignoring my protest, until I simply gave in and followed.

We arrived in the auditorium and everyone was there. Even the boys that had mostly been pulled in to be muscle were there. I had no idea what they were thinking of doing but it was sort of nice to see them.

“Kyuhyun,” Sungmin called me, smiling. “I was hoping you would come!”

“Yeah,” I said as I moved over to him. “What are you going to do?”

“Kangin asked me to play guitar for him while he sings. I agreed,” he said.

“That will be cool,” I replied. I had heard him play a time or two and he played very well in my opinion.

“Yeah,” he agreed.

“Alright!” Heechul’s voice called us to order. She looked like she always did only this time she was standing on a chair balanced by Siwon and Hankyung.

“As president of the drama club,” she began. When did that happen and who let that pass? “I called everyone here to inform you all of auditions for the spring talent show. They will be held right here on this stage, Friday afternoon. The school has agreed to allow us to stay after to practice this whole week. The various classrooms can be used for various acts. This year the format is a little different. No one is going to know what anyone else is performing until opening night. All practices will happen away from other groups and any breaking of this will result in disqualification for the show. Now fly my pretties! Fly!” She laugh crazily and everyone looked at her as if she had lost what few marbles she had.

“I’ve always wanted to say that,” she said rather proud of herself. When no one moved she gave everyone a skeptical look and cleared her throat. “Really. Go. Get out of here. Go practice or something.” There was shuffling and movement and she looked rather satisfied with herself and offered Hankyung her hand to help her down.

Now that I had listened to her speech I still had no talent and I was not going to stay here without one. I turned to leave.

“Oh Kyu,” Heechul literally sung after me. My eyebrow twitched.

Now if I had been intelligent I would have just kept moving out the door, but something about her just got under my skin. “It’s Kyuhyun,” I grated out.

“A little birdie told me you sing quite well,” Heechul said. I spun and glared at Eunhyuk who stared back with wide eyes. “Actually it was Sungmin who told me that once upon a time,” Heechul said flippantly. “Anyway,” she pulled several papers out of a folder. “I present to you, Plan S.”

She handed the papers to me and I blinked at them and then at her. One page was full of characters that I hadn’t the faintest idea what they were. The other pages were full of notes, and the same characters corresponding with those notes. “What is this?” I asked bluntly.

“A song,” she said as if I was completely dense.

“In what language?” I stressed. I could only read one of two of the words scattered throughout.

“Hangeul,” Heechul said with a shrug.

“I don’t read or speak Hangeul.”

“Don’t worry, Ryeowook will help you.”

“No,” I said, shoving the papers back at her.

“Excuse me?” she asked, not touching them.

“I said no. I’m sure Hangeul is a very nice language and all, but no. I wouldn’t even do this if it was in a language I could read. I don’t sing.”

“Well Kyuhyun it is like this. You can either do the song, or sit back and watch me and a few other theater people do this,” She handed me a neatly stapled stack of papers. A glance told me it was a script; a script with the title ‘Sungmin, Kyuhyun Loves You’. I didn’t need to read it to know what was contained within the pages. Worse, I was certain she wasn’t bluffing.

“Fine,” I said through clenched teeth. “I’ll do the song,” I shoved the script back to her.

She took and smirked. “I knew you would see it my way.” She spun, in triumph and beckoned her ever growing entourage to follow her.

“At least you could have come up with a more creative plan name then S for song,” I muttered under my breath.

“Actually,” Leeteuk said proudly. “It doesn’t stand for song. It stands for ‘Saranghae’. It is Hangeul for ‘I love you’.”

“Oh,” I said. What else was I was supposed to say? I looked down at the papers in my hands. I had just been completely and totally out smarted. My life sucked sometimes. The good news was it only took me a fraction of a second to check how I felt about Heechul. Yep, I still hated her.

Chapter Six

AN: Well I think I am fully briable... lol. I was so excited for all of the comments I got last time that I had to write this next part. It helped that I had a two and a half hour car ride to do so. I must say typing stuff on my Ipod is a pain, but I think the little thing has learned SuJu's names because it was giving me auto complete for them. Good little Ipod. Thanks everyone that commented last time! I love hearing from all of you! What do you think of Plan S? Cookies to anyone who can guess what song it is going to be. ^_^
