From the Soul to the Song
Verse Six

“Can I do it again?” Heechul asked suddenly.

Vidyagauri gave him a puzzled look. “Your element won’t change.”

“As much as some of us may want it to,” a voice said in their minds.

Heechul glared at the cat in Siwon’s lap before rising to his feet and ignoring it completely. He moved to Vidyagauri and held out his hand expectantly. Sighing, she placed the smooth sphere on his palm. He closed his fingers around it, obscuring it from sight, and at the same time shut his eyes. A slow intake and then release of breath caused Heechul’s chest to shift noticeably before it fell into the normal pattern of regulated breathing.

“Is he meditating?” Donghae asked with more than a bit of surprise coloring his voice. He was probably one of the few who were willing to voice their opinion on that subject.

“It is very much like meditating,” Vidyagauri answered him. “First you must quiet your minds and free yourselves from distracting thoughts.” Kangin let out a snort at her words but she continued as if she had not heard him. “Then you must search for the core of your being, the inner place within yourselves. Once you find that then push it out through your hand and into the stone. It will manifest itself as an element.”

“That is what Heechul is trying to do?” Donghae asked.

Heechul cracked open one eye and glared at him. “It would be a bit easier if people would quit talking.”

“I thought you were a pro at all this,” Kangin remarked with a smirk, receiving a sharp look from Leeteuk for his trouble.

“I’ve only done this once,” Heechul snarled, managing a fairly decent one eyed glare before he shut it again. “There,” he said proudly a moment later. Carefully, he uncurled his fingers from the stone and displayed it like a prize.

In his palm, sat the same clear stone he had originally held, yet now it was filled with substance. A symbol in glowing red sat in the middle of the sphere. Circling it in lazy looping patterns were rings of fire. As strange as the entire thing was, it was even stranger that it was all contained in a tiny sphere that fit in the palm of his hand.

“Whoa!” Donghae exclaimed excitedly. Despite the excitement that most of the other members shared, no one made a move to attempt to touch the object. They had learned their lesson about touching things in this strange realm.

Heechul looked exactly like a preening peacock who was all too pleased with himself. In the back of the group Hankyung rolled his eyes and shifted closer to Siwon so he could pet the cat in his lap. “He’s going to be so full of himself tonight,” the Chinese man muttered in Mandarin.

“When isn’t he?” Siwon answered him in the same language, yet there was affection in his voice. Hankyung hummed in agreement.

“You try,” Heechul told Donghae with a smirk. He tossed the small stone to the man, who easily caught it. Once it was in his hands, Donghae was disappointed to find it was just a simple clear stone again. Despite his disappointment he cradled it in the palm of his hand and shut his eyes as Heechul had done. After a moment he cracked open one eye and peeked into his hands. When his gaze fell on the simple clear stone his shoulders drooped.

“How come it isn’t working?” he asked, as he opened both his eyes and his hands to stare at the stone.

“You have to find the quiet inside you,” Vidyagauri instructed patiently.

“I did.”

“Donghae,” Hankyung called. The younger man turned to look at him. “Close your eyes.” Once Donghae had done as he instructed he continued. “Remember how you feel when we walk out on the stage and get ourselves set. That moment when the stage lights are off, and we only have a few seconds left of quiet before the music starts. Feel that same feeling of calm, excitement and certainty all wrapped up in one. Now take that feeling and hold onto it. Imagine the music starts and after the third beat your limbs come alive with action and power as you begin to dance.”

A small smile crosses Donghae’s face as he imagined the feelings that Hankyung was talking about. They had all felt it hundreds of times, and he has no trouble falling back into those well known feelings. A moment later there is a bright flash of blue light from between his hands, and Eunhyuk lets out a surprised gasp.

“Hae I think you did it,” he mumbled.

“What? Really?” Donghae’s eyes snapped open and he opened his hands to look at the object there. This time the stone is filled with substance. In the center is a strange symbol that he can’t read glowing blue. Around it circle lazy loops of water droplets. Even though he can’t read it, Donghae knows what the character in the center says. “Water,” he mumbled in disbelief.

“Cool,” Eunhyuk commented as he leaned over to get a closer look at the orb. “Can I try?”

For a moment Donghae looked like a child unwilling to share his newly discovered toy. Then Vidyagauri stood with a smile. “You can all try.” She moved amongst them distributing the small orbs to each one.

One by one Super Junior accepted the small items and closed them firmly into their hands. Eunhyuk closed his eyes as well for a moment before opening them and peaking at his orb.

“Try it like Hankyung told me,” Donghae instructed, leaning over, eager to see what Eunhyuk’s would look like. The other man nodded and closed his eyes once more.

“Peculiar,” Vidyagauri commented quietly to Auanipala. “I have never seen any of the Ensouled find their element like that.”

The wolf’s quiet chuckle filled her mind. ’I suspect that they have been tapping into their power all along without knowing it. That would explain why Heechul, Hankyung, and Siwon had to continue to protect them.’

“But that is-“

’Unheard of yes, but not impossible.’

Her face drew up in confusion as she studied the Light One, who continued to watch the group. “You know something,” she commented softly.

’I suspect something,’ he replied. After a moment he turned his head to look at her. The deep wisdom she could see in his eyes kept her from asking anything further. Instead she nodded and turned her gaze back on the men in time to see Eunhyuk’s face light up as the orb in his hand did the same.

“I did it!” He exclaimed excitedly. Donghae leaned over to study the orb in his hand.

“Hey your symbol is the same as mine,” the man held his alongside Eunhyuk’s to compare. Indeed the symbol in the center was exactly the same shape and color as Donghae’s. Eunhyuk’s, however, looked as though someone had simply filled the orb with water.

Despite the differences, he was still excited by the object. “Cool!”

A moment later there was a pleased noise from Shindong as he got a response from his orb. Donghae and Eunhyuk scrambled over to investigate. In a matter of a few minutes several members had successfully completed their tasks and were chattering excitedly. The group resembled a collection of first graders gathered around brand new toys.

“You look satisfied with yourself,” Siwon told Heechul as the older man flopped on the grass beside him. Heechul didn’t respond, only smirked while he scooted so his back was resting along Siwon’s shoulder and then thrusting his feet into Hankyung’s lap.

“He’s proud of them,” Hankyung commented knowingly. He covered one of Heechul’s thin ankles with his hand. Heechul glared at him but didn’t say anything in response. Instead he reached out and stroked his fingers over Endellion’s soft fur. The cat's resulting chuckle filled their minds.

By this point all of Super Junior had successfully completed their tasks and had naturally broken into similar groups. Eunhyuk and Donghae had been joined by Kibum, who’s orb looked exactly like Eunhyuk’s.

Beside them Shindong was arguing fiercely that his orb looked “So much cooler and mysterious.” He brandished the orb that contained a glowing yellow symbol surrounded by what appeared to be fog. Sungmin, who was holding and identical orb, was nodding in agreement.

Kyuhyun sat near them holding an orb that was nearly the same. His had a glowing yellow symbol. Surrounding it were rings of what looked like small fluffy clouds, drifting in lazy loops. “Are you sure we can’t just switch teams?”

“Not a chance, Kui Xian,” Zhou mi replied smirking. “Besides you would need one of these,” he waved his orb in front of Kyuhyun’s face. Inside it was a silver glowing symbol, surrounded by pulsing white light. Kyuhyun shifted his gaze to Ryeowook who was cradling an orb identical to Zhou mi’s.

“Sorry Kyuhyun,” the man said apologetically.

Kyuhyun heaved a sigh. “I finally get sucked into a video game only to get placed on the pink dream team,” he muttered to himself.

“It can’t be that bad,” Yesung commented smirking. “At least Sungmin’s martial arts skills will make up for Shindong’s lack.”

“And you can always veto the matching pink outfits when Sungmin presents the idea,” Zhou mi said with a smirk.

“Shut up,” Kyuhyun replied only slightly irritated.

“It’s ok Kyuhyun,” Yesung patted him on the back sympathetically. “We will always be KRY on stage. Here we are just YRZ.” He waved his orb that contained the same symbol as Zhou mi’s and Ryeowook’s in the air. Inside it was filled much like the other two’s were, however his contained additional streams of different colored light that lazily circled within it.

“At least you have a team. No one matches mine,” Henry muttered quietly. In his hands his orb had manifested a black symbol surrounded by slowly drifting music notes.

“Don’t worry Henry. I’m sure there is a reason,” Leeteuk patted him on the back with his free hand. In his other cradled his orb that looked as though it had turned into a rock. The substance was slightly transparent allowing the green symbol within to be seen.

“He’s right Henry. I mean everyone else has three but it’s only the two of us,” Kangin reassured him, displaying his orb that contained the same symbol as Leeteuk’s. Instead of being a solid rock, smaller tiny pebbles circled the symbol.

“What if I was supposed to be on your team but I did something wrong,” Henry commented softly, gazing forlornly at his orb.

“You weren’t. I’m sure of it,” Kyuhyun told him.

“How do you know?”

“Because who would really want to be on a team with the umma and appa of our group. Really it would be like being with your parents all the time,” Kyuhyun responded.

Kangin glared and looked as though he was about to say something before Leeteuk elbowed him in the ribs causing him to fall silent.

“See, he’s whipped,” Kyuhyun responded with a smirk.

Kangin was saved from doing something potentially unintelligent as Sungmin asked a question that they had all been wondering. “Why do some of ours look different?” he asked.

“The way your orb looks tells you what your abilities are. For example Donghae’s element flows in controlled lines because he is a Weaver. Eunhyuk, your simply fills your orb because you are a Singer,” Vidyagauri explained.

“So wait, I am a Singer?” Sungmin asked holding up his stone.

“Correct.”

“Then I just produce power?”

“Not specifically. Your primary task is to produce power for your Weaver, who happens to be Kyuhyun. At the same time you must protect your Weaver and are able to use spells and things that he makes for you, much like you saw Siwon and Hankyung doing.”

“So then my job is to use the power that Eunhyuk and Kibum make for me?” Donghae asked.

“Yes. You have the ability to take their power and make it something more. Your mind and the power that they give you are the limit to what you can create. In time you will find you can do many things with your ability and their power,” Vidyagauri explained.

“What about mine,” Henry said holding up his orb. “Mine isn’t like theirs.”

“That is because you are unique Henry. You have the ability to produce power just like any Singer but you don’t do it by singing. You do it by playing an instrument. You are known as a Player.”

“Why don’t I have a team?” he asked.

“A Player never has a team to work with because you will be able to lend your power to all of them. In reality you are on all of their teams at the same time.” At her words a small smile crossed his face.

“What about Yesung’s? His looks sort of like a Singer but also like a Weaver,” Kyuhyun asked.

“Yesung is a very special, very rare type of person. He is known as a Spinner. He can perform both the tasks of a Singer and a Weaver at the same time. However this is very difficult, which is likely why two of you have been assigned as his Singers.”

“Question,” Sungmin said raising his hand. “How come I know what my symbol says but not anyone else’s?”

’You are connected to your element,’ Auanipala replied. ’Therefore you have a deeper understanding of it than any other element. The symbol you see within your orbs is part of the true manifestation of the element. Like you, I can only truly understand the symbol within the orbs that Kangin and Leeteuk are holding, for they are both holding my own element,’

“Not that we are complaining, but why is no one else fire?” Kyuhyun asked.

’These children are just full of questions,’ Endellion grumbled.

’You should expect nothing less of a Weaver of Wind and a Singer of Wind. We are a curiously intellectual element after all.’ The voice that spoke into their head was decidedly feminine. The gathered men did not have to wait long before a falcon swooped into the clearing and circled them once. Almost daintily, it fluttered its wings and landed lightly on Auanipala’s back.

’About time,’ Endellion grumbled. Heechul chuckled and exchanged looks with Hankyung and Siwon. All three of them knew who had finally arrived.

“May I introduce the Light One of Wind, Zepherin,” Vidyagauri said with a smile.

’We would have been here sooner, but someone got distracted by a pond in the forest.’ the voice that spoke was yet another one that they hadn’t heard. From the trees immerged two more figures.

One was what looked like a silver dragon in miniature size. The one beside it, however was what caught all of Super Junior by surprise. Floating along a few feet above the ground was an orb of water. Inside it swam a fish colored in shades of bright gold, orange, and red. With every flick of its tail the orb moved forward, giving the appearance that the fish was swimming through the water that surrounded it.

The dragon flew silently to Vidyagauri before landing lightly on her shoulder. It curled its tail lightly behind her neck, letting the tip flick slowly on her other shoulder.

’I had never been in that pond. I had to sample the water,’ this feminine voice that spoke into their minds clearly came from the fish that hovered in its water beside the wolf.

’Sampling does not involve spending an hour playing with the fish that lived there,’ now that they could see her, they could tell the voice was coming from the small dragon.

’Only an hour?’ Auanipala commented turning his head to look at the fish.

’Yes. They both threatened to start eating my new friends,’ even without facial features it felt as though the fish were pouting.

Vidyagauri chuckled. “I would like you to meet Irirangi, the Light One of Spirit,” she gestured to the dragon on her shoulder. “And Kanja, the Light One of Water. These are the new Ensouled.”

“Cool,” Yesung said, the first of the group to speak since the remaining Light Ones had appeared, surprising them all into silence.

The laughter that filled their head from the dragon was light and musical. ’You must be a Spinner of Spirit. You will do.’

“Uh thanks?” he responded.

’To answer your question, Weaver of Wind, there are none among you who are fire because you need all five elements to function as you should.’ Zepherin told them.

Now that they were getting back to answering questions, most of the men seemed to snap out of their daze. “Function as we should? What does that mean?” Kyuhyun asked.

’I cannot tell you anymore. You are not yet able to understand. Be patient Weaver of Wind.’

“Just like a video game,” Kyuhyun muttered darkly.

“Can you tell us how the Weavers are supposed to use the Singers power?” Sungmin asked.

“A Weaver and their Singers are connected through their own personal song,” Vidyagauri answered. Her fingers rose and gently grazed along the soft scales of the dragon on her shoulder almost as an afterthought as she spoke. “A Singer begins to sing and their Weaver can then feel their Song. If the Singer and Weaver have not yet physically become one then a physical touch of the skin is needed. However if they have physically become one, they do not need to touch, they simply need to be within hearing range of each other. Once a Weaver can feel their Singer’s Song then there is no longer a need for audible noise. The Weaver will then be able to tap into the Singer’s power directly.”

“What do you mean by physically become one?” Eunhyuk asked. At his words a light dusting of pink colored Vidyagauri’s cheeks.

’She means, Singer of Water, that if a Weaver and their Singer have intercourse, or sex as you sometime refer to it, then they no longer need to touch to form the connection’ Irirangi answered for her.

Eunhyuk blushed. “Oh.”

Auanipala chuckled. ’I think we have done enough for today. Take the rest of the day to explore and enjoy each other’s company for tomorrow training will begin.’ He rose causing the falcon to take flight again and walked to Kangin and Leeteuk. Once in front of them he pressed his nose lightly to Kangin’s forehead. ’I will see you tomorrow, my Weaver of Earth,’ He then repeated the process with Leeteuk ’and you my Singer of Earth.’ Once finished he turned and walked towards the trees where he seemed to vanish.

With a sigh the small dragon rose from Vidyagauri’s shoulder. She flew to Yesung and hovered in front of him. For a moment the Light One studied him then turned her gaze to both Zhou mi and Ryeowook. ’You will do Spinner of Spirit. As will you Singers of Spirit.’ Without another word she turned and flew towards the forest where the wolf had gone.

’Never stop asking questions my Weaver of Wind and my Singer of Wind,’ Zepherin told Kyuhyun and Sungmin. Then she turned to face Shindong, ’And do not be afraid to ask questions my Singer of Wind, for that is how you learn.’ Having said her peace she turned and followed to others into the forest.

Once she had vanished, the fish swam lazily over to Donghae. Once there she circled him quickly before doing the same to Eunhyuk and Kibum. Donghae was tempted to reach out and see if he could touch her through the water. ’We can play together tomorrow, my Weaver of Water and my Singers of Water.’ She giggled lightly and looked as though she wanted to do more until a sharp call of her name from the direction of the forest called her away. Still laughing she swam towards where the other Light One’s had gone before disappearing with them.

Endellion stretched on Siwon’s lap before climbing to his feet. ’Well I guess that is my cue to go too. Don’t think I’m going to do some fancy goodbye you brats.’

Siwon chuckled and scratched the top of the cats head. “We wouldn’t dream of asking you for one.”

Endellion snorted before leaping away and trotting lightly through the men scattered around the clearing. He paused in front of Henry and looked up at him. ’Don’t feel left out Player of the Song.’ Endellion said in a voice much softer then his normal tones. You are more important then you may think. There has not been a Player for centuries and they are well cherished when they are found. Remember that.

“Thank you,” Henry said softly. With a last flick of his tail, Endellion turned and trotted off into the forest with his brethren.

“Ok then,” Kibum mumbled. “I thought this vacation couldn’t get any stranger.”

“Please feel free to explore at your leisure,” Vidyagauri told them after a moment. “If you have anything you need please ask for it.”

“I have something,” Kangin said immediately. “Tell me where we can find the beer.”
