From the Song to the Soul
Verse Five

“I have a question,” Kyuhyun said mildly.

“Yes?” Vidyagauri asked. Although she had offered to wait as long as they wanted before meeting them out on the lawn, Super Junior as a whole found that they no longer had an appetite. Instead they had filed out and joined her in the clearing where she had first found them. There they sat with the winged woman slightly apart from the rest of them.

“If we have been here for about fourteen hours, I assume we haven’t been on Earth. So by now they are all frantically looking for our kidnapers?”

“I bet it looks just like we got kidnapped by aliens!” Donghae piped up, excited.

“Maybe they will put that on the news!” Eunhyuk joined in, fueled by the other man’s energy.

“I can see the headlines now,” Heechul added dryly. “Super Junior goes missing. ELF threatens the aliens for their safe return.” Donghae and Eunhyuk exchanged grins, obviously excited by the possibility.

Vidyagauri laughed lightly. “I’m sorry, but to them it will seem as though you never left. Time flows differently here then it does on Earth. One day here is only a small fraction of a second there. Even if you stay here for an entire year, it will only amount to half a second on Earth. I don’t suggest that you stay more than a few years before returning. Even then it will just seem as though you flicker a bit. Do not worry. When you are returned to Earth, you will be as you were and unharmed.”

Kyuhyun nodded satisfied, while Eunhyuk and Donghae looked a bit saddened by the news.

“Now about why we are here,” Leeteuk prompted. He was sitting in the middle of the group directly across from Vidyagauri, as if the position could protect the rest of the group from some unspoken enemy.

“You are here because you were no longer safe on Earth,” she replied.

“You told us that yesterday. Why?”

“Allow me to start from the beginning,” she said softly. When none of Super Junior seemed to protest, instead they simply settled in like kindergarteners ready for story time, she continued. “When the world was first created, He who created it, created it for balance. As such there was a realm created call Sanctuary which was filled with light and goodness. Within it the Light Ones were placed. In alternation there was a realm created known as Turmoil. Turmoil was filled with darkness. None could live there except for the Dark Ones. Between the two realms was a neutral realm called Earth.

Earth was then filled with creatures; animals, plants, and man, much to the delight of the Light and Dark Ones. They soon discovered that the most interesting creature of all was man. They were captivated by the thought of a creature that lived in neutrality. A creature who was not born to dark or light but instead was capable of choosing for himself whom he would serve, the Light or the Dark. For the Light Ones this was a fascination, for the Dark, a great opportunity.

At first the Light Ones simply sat and watched man, observing his changes and his choices. They rejoiced with man when one chose the Light and they were saddened whenever the choice was made to serve the Dark. Despite the choice made they would never interfere, for they felt that it was man’s choice to make. However as they watched, they saw that the beautiful creation that was earth began to slip more and more to towards the Dark.

The Light Ones were puzzled, for this was not the balance that the Earth had been created for. Too late they discovered that some of their opposites, the Dark Ones, had taken a more active role and tried to persuade man to serve the Dark. If the Dark One failed, and the man chose to serve the Light then the Dark One would simply steal the man’s Song.”

“Their Song?” Donghae asked, leaning forward eagerly. “What is that?”

“The Dark Ones and the Light Ones were made of one thing and that was pure power. They found that man was created with two substances: a body, tangible and whole, as well as power. The combination was something that the Light and Dark Ones had never experienced before. The body was nothing but a casing, a form for the power to inhabit where the Light and Dark Ones had none. However the power that inhabited that casing was found to be unlike any power that they had ever seen. It was very much like their own power, but at the same time not. In it they discovered music and so in turn they called it the person’s Song.”

“So we all have a Song inside us?” Sungmin asked, slightly confused.

“I think we would know it better as our soul or our spirit,” Siwon told him.

“Yes,” Vidyagauri agreed. “It was found that the Dark One’s could take this Song and use its power as their own. Then they were free to inhabit the empty form that was left behind. Too late the Light Ones discovered that their brethren were doing this. With each Song that the Dark One took it became stronger. With each human body that the Dark Ones took more destruction was wrought on Earth.

Fearing that the Earth would be consumed by Turmoil if it was left to the Dark Ones, the Light Ones took action at last. The settled onto Earth and wielded the power that was their own against the Dark Ones, but they found that unlike previously, they were no match for their brethren. The power the Dark Ones had gained from the human Songs was too great. In their desperation to save it, the Light Ones turned to the Earth itself. It answered their call and brought forth its elements teaching the Light Ones how to wield them with their power. With their new found strength they could combat the Dark Ones but they found that it was far too late. Too many of the Light Ones had died in the battle and too much of man was given over to the Dark Ones, and they were filled with despair.

It was in their quiet despair, that one of the Light Ones discovered that man had a way to protect themselves. The Light Ones had always known that the Songs of man held power but never before had they seen that power used. In two children, twins, they discovered the ability to use the power of their Song. One twin could produce pure power above and beyond that of her Song. Her brother could take her power and use it. The Light Ones saw what they were and took them away to Sanctuary where they would be safe and could learn. They were the first Weaver and Singer.

They taught the twins how to use their power to fight the Dark Ones where they could not. They taught them how to resist the pull of the Dark and when they were done, the Light Ones found that they children too could use the power of the Earth’s elements.

Now that the Light Ones knew what to look for, they found the ability in more of man. They found a few who possessed more powerful Songs that could both create their own power and then weave it as well. They called those Spinners. Then they found those even rarer that could produce power from their Songs through the use of instruments. They called them Players.

For hundreds of years the Light Ones took these humans and trained them. They became known as Ensouled, the army that would protect man. Once they had a small army of trained men, the Light Ones decided to return with them to Earth. When they arrived hundreds of years had passed on Earth as well.”

“But I thought time flows differently here?” Ryeowook asked.

“It does now. Then it did not. Then time flowed here the same as it did on Earth, however since Sanctuary is life and goodness, things here did not age. The Ensouled returned to their home to find everything they had known had vanished. The Light Ones that had come with them wept for they had left many of their own on Earth and now there were few and the Dark Ones yet thrived. Despite the new found strength of the Ensouled, the Dark Ones were too great in power.

In a final attempt to save Earth, they secured all of man and creatures that had chosen the Light that they could along with their Ensouled. Once they were safe, the remaining Light Ones brought the raw power of Earth to bear. In sorrow, they wiped out creation and man with the power of their destructive force. With the forms that they had inhabited dying, the Dark Ones had no choice but to leave them and retreat to their home in Turmoil.

The Light Ones waited until they were sure the last of the Dark Ones had left before they quieted the power of Earth. Then they set the man and creatures they had been able to save on the new peaceful Earth and helped them to start anew. What they had done was not without great cost. Many of the Light Ones had given their lives to the Earth in order to cleanse it. Only six remained. They returned to Sanctuary for they knew it would not be safe on Earth for them for long.

Man grew and multiplied, until the Earth was teaming with life again. The Light Ones were glad to see that things had been restored to the way they had started. Slowly the Dark Ones began to return to the Earth. This time the Light Ones kept a much closer watch on them. From their Sanctuary the Light One located new Ensouled and brought them to safety to teach them. However they knew that they could not stay for long, since their absence from Earth last time had almost allowed it to be consumed by Turmoil. Instead they decided to use the power that the Earth had given them and change the flow of time in Sanctuary. The Light Ones knew that they needed to do this and were willing to make the sacrifice to do so.”

“And so Kalaghata sacrificed her power and her life to change the flow of time in Sanctuary,” a voice that was not Vidyagauri’s said from beside her. Most of Super Junior started in surprise as they realized it was not her that had finished the story but a large grey wolf that had appeared beside her.

In the midst of the group there was suddenly a small whoosh of fire that curled forth before vanishing just as quickly leaving a cream colored cat in its place. “Auanipala, your entrances are always so boring.” It said lazily. Lifting up its black tipped paws, it pranced lightly over to Heechul before climbing into his lap. “Pet.”

“Hi to you too, Endellion,” Heechul said irritably but he lifted his hand and began to run it down the cat’s back anyway.

“Some of us prefer not to scare our newest Ensouled,” the wolf said lightly.

“Undoubtedly,” the cat agreed then it tipped its head back to allow Hankyung to give his chin a good scratch.

“So I’m pretty sure I’m already crazy because my brain is beginning to believe that this might actually be real, but is that wolf and cat talking in everyone’s head or just mine?” Kangin asked.

Vidyagauri laughed lightly. “I would like you all to meet the remaining Light Ones. This is Auanipala, the Light One of Nature,” she gestured to the wolf beside her who tipped its head in greeting. “And Endellion, the Light One of Fire,” she gestured to the cat who was currently purring in Heechul’s lap.

“The others will be along,” the wolf said.

“I thought the Light Ones didn’t have forms,” Zhou Mi stated in slight confusion.

“We do not. However we have learned that it is much easier for the Ensouled to see us if we have a form of some sort. The forms of man are too complex for us to take on ourselves but we can manage the form of a creature closely tied with our element,” Zhou mi could now recognize the differences in the sound of the voices in his head and knew that it was the wolf who had responded. “Do any of them fall under my element?” The wolf inclined his head towards the winged woman and she smiled at him.

“I cannot yet say for sure,” she told him. “We were getting around to that.”

“Ok, Leeteuk I know you said never to drink the night before a concert, but now I think I am finally getting why,” Shindong mumbled.

“Somehow I don’t think he was worried about us ending up in an entirely different realm,” Kyuhyun said sarcastically.

Heechul sighed dramatically and flopped back onto Hankyung’s lap. Endellion gave a disgruntled mewl before leaping off his lap and onto Siwon’s. Dramatically, Heechul threw a hand over his face, “After all I did! I let the entire side of my face get bruised and even lost just to show them that this is real, they still think it is just a hangover!” He moaned tragically.

“Yes how could they,” Hankyung said dryly, patting Heechul on the head in mock sympathy.

“We should just be adaptable,” Henry said. “After all we are idols, we should expect the unexpected right?”

“Yep!” Donghae agreed brightly.

“Someone is having too much fun,” Heechul opened one eye to peer at the man.

“It’s how he copes,” Hankyung replied. He had experience working with Donghae in new and strange situations and one of the ways he dealt with strange things was to find the joy in them and get through it.

“So what now?” Leeteuk asked Vidyagauri.

“Now you choose. You all have the potential to become members of the Ensouled, warriors that can protect the human race, but you do not have to do so. You may choose to return to Earth and carry on with your lives. Please take as much time as you need to come to your decision.” After she spoke she rose gracefully to her feet.

“I’m going to stay,” Yesung said matter-of-factly. It was the first time that he had spoken in quite awhile. Ryeowook looked at him and an unspoken question hung in the air. Yesung shrugged. “I’ve always been different. What is one more difference?” His words seemed to settle something inside of Ryeowook, and he nodded as well.

“So if we chose to stay here and then go home we can still be Super Junior?” Leeteuk asked.

“Of course,” Vidyagauri answered. “You will be able to be whatever you were when I brought you here. You will just simply be more.”

“How long has DBSK and SS501 been here?” Kyuhyun asked.

“They were here two years ago Earth time and stayed for nearly a year. Then they returned to Earth as Ensouled and have been fighting the Dark Ones ever since.”

Sungmin’s face brightened as he realized why Kyuhyun had asked. DBSK and SS501 had continued their careers and no one had known that anything had changed. That meant that the same could be true for them.

Leeteuk looked at each of his members before he came to a decision. “Raise your hands if you want to stay.”

“Do I need to raise my hand teacher? I think my choice is obvious,” Heechul said but he raised his hand anyway. Yesung’s hand shot up followed by Ryeowook’s. After that, one by one, Super Junior raised their hands until all fifteen hands were in the air.

“Well that makes it unanimous. We’ll stay,” Leeteuk told her.

She smiled brightly at him. “I was hoping you would say that.” From a pocket hidden amongst the folds of her skirt she withdrew a pouch. Carefully she opened it and withdrew a small, clear, glass sphere. “Now let’s see which element your Song lies in, shall we?”
