From the Soul to the Song
Refrain One
Fruit 101
“Welcome to fruit 101. I will be your professor for the duration of this lesson, Professor Kim Heechul.” Heechul pushed up the pair of glasses he had obtained somewhere and fell completely into his role.
“Professor,” Kyuhyun called raising his hand, “May I be excused from this lesson?”
“No you may not! There will be a test to follow so you had best pay attention. This,” Heechul gestured at a variety of objects in front of him. “Is the fruit of Sanctuary.” Eunhyuk raised his hand and waited patiently to be called on. “Yes?”
“Should I be taking notes professor?” he said with the smallest bit of a smile on his face. Beside him Sungmin snickered.
“You may do so if you wish.” Heechul replied. He was about to continue when he noticed Eunhyuk’s hand was raised again. “Yes?”
“I don’t have any paper professor,” Eunhyuk stated.
“You won’t have any fingers to hold a pencil if you keep this up,” Heechul responded in a falsely sweet tone. “Now,” he continued, not allowing Eunhyuk the chance to continue. “This is a blue cucumber.” His fingers lifted an object that did indeed look like a cucumber that had been dyed blue. “It tastes like a mixture of blueberries and cucumber.”
He put the object down and gathered a hand full of small purple berries. “These are purpleberries. They taste like blueberries with a hint of tang.” Heechul popped one into his mouth and then put the rest back onto the table.
The next fruit his fingers closed on was a deep red one. It had grown in a wavy pattern causing it to look like a red squiggled line. Heechul lifted it and displayed it for all to see. “This is a rediggle. It tastes mostly like strawberries dipped in honey.”
He replaced that and lifted a fruit in the shape of a pyramid. Its sides were smooth and each side was a different color. The fruits came in several different color combinations. The one in his hand was red on one side and orange, yellow and green on the others. “This is a pyrid. Its flavor changes depending on the color. The more red colors the sweeter it is. The more colors towards the blue side it has the more sour the flavor is.”
A bright pink fruit that was shaped like a doughnut, complete with the hole in the center, was the next one he picked up. “This is a pinknut. It tastes sort of like a strawberry smoothie.” In his other hand he grabbed a fruit with odd globs and shapes coming off it, making it look entirely abstract. It was deep black in color and he lifted it and waved it around. “This is a blob and it tastes exactly like black licorice.”
He set both of those on the table and picked up one that looked identical to an apple. It even had the bright red color in its skin. “This is a kapple. It tastes exactly like a kiwi.” Placing that one on the table he picked up a small fruit that looked like an American football. It was green with stripes of blue. “This is a greenball. It tastes sort of like kimichi only milder. Personally I think Jaejoong planted it.”
He placed both down on the table and carefully picked up a perfectly circular fruit. At first the fruit looked as though it was a deep blue. Upon further inspection it was apparent that the skin of the fruit was transparent. Inside was a deep blue liquid with tiny floating black seeds. They swirled slightly as Heechul shook it. “This is a bluejuice fruit. They get the juice we were drinking from it.”
Carefully he placed it back on the table and picked up the last fruit on the table. It was deep green in color and shaped a dodecahedron. “This is a chocohe. It tastes better then chocolate.” Heechul placed the fruit back on the table and clapped his hands together. “This concludes the lesson. Are there any questions class?”
Donghae raised his hand. “Yes?” Heechul asked sweetly.
“Did you make up all of those names?” he asked.
An overly dramatic shocked look crossed Heechul’s face. “I did not! Those are really the names of the fruit.” Hankyung snorted. Heechul kicked him under the table. “I will take no further questions! Class dismissed.” The man grabbed a few of his favorite fruits, turned, and swept regally out of the room.
“I’m still as confused as I was,” Ryeowook muttered.
“They are all edible right?” Shindong asked. Hankyung nodded. “That is all I need to know.” He reached forward and snatched one at random, while the chuckles of the rest of the members filled the room.

Basically these little Refrains will be popping up now and again. They are shorts that don't necessarily fit in any particular place in the story and are typically only there for comedic value. They don't have any real bearing on the plot and very likely will never be addressed in the actual story. I have a few more planned, that I will be posting throughout the story. Let me know what you think.
