A little bit of our balcony :-)

Currently our balcony is quite colourful and quite green. Sadly, the gooseberry doesn't bear a SINGLE fruit this year, but I think I recall something where gooseberries often don't yield fruits in the first few years. So it might be normal...

In turn you'll get pics of a Gloriosa superba )

Gloriosa, in English, is...Gloriosa. I love its beautiful flowers! The little green thing pointing to the left is the pistil of the flower, waiting for the pollen to be ready.

You are so good with plants, you should try blackcurrant next year. It has a unique flavor I love.

Sometimes, English is soooo easy *g* (it's just that hardly anyone works with the Latin names in Germany, when the German one is so much more common *ggg*)

My grandparents had blackcurrants in their garden - and I never was really fond of the taste. It's okay in a juice, but fresh? My brother, cousins and I always fought over the redcurrant ^^;;;; (well, that and who was allowed to harvest the white asparagus. My dad once said that it took my grandfather quite some effort to get the asparagus to start growing, but it's a nice memory of my childhood. Sitting there with a knife and looking at the few rows of sand, trying to spot another one to cut ^__^ )

Oh - and... our balcony is really FULL now.
If we want to sit there and have a small BBQ, we can't put any other plants there. It's just a normal balcony after all ^^;;;

Wow. I never heard of this thing. It looks amazing, though. A bit like a lily? A lily that will COME AND EAT YOU.

Aw such a cute little strawberry. I want to come and protect it from the Gloriosa now.

Actually, I have never eaten blackcurrants fresh, but they are wonderful as a sorbet or candy. I do like the red currants as a fruit.

I once grew asparagus myself. The home grown are the best!
