*points at edit anyway*

and I was talking about the mentioned husband + wife + kid(s), where he works fulltime to support a family. Just to make that sure.
Not about students who work half-time and thus have to live in a similar situation (and work for even less money ;_; )

Never mind that "back in the day" people as a general rule didn't get divorced as much.

Which I think was mainly a) because the women weren't that independent, financially speaking
and certainly b) divorce was VERY much frowned upon.

Therefore yes, with a changing society you have to apply new/different rules.

And there some guys think women WANT to go back to such times -.-;;;;

Treat your partner with respect, yo! (I guess if we'd all do this, or at least try as much as possible, there'd be less divorces. Hopefully.)

But good for your mom, that she doesn't have to deal with it any longer.

Oh man, I wouldn't even spend any time on comments like that. Probably came from a man who was taught that "women have to be in the kitchen" and shit like that that puts feminism back at least 60 years.

People also don't think about the possibility that some persons simply don't marry or have a relationship. They still have to care for themselves, right? But no, it appears that women are taught to search for a husband who can provide and men should search for a woman who substitues for the mother in terms of washing, cooking and the like... at least I get that impression quite often.

Not sure if man or woman, but certainly somebody who ignores who society works right now.

For the rest: Amen!

Yeah, you're right. Sadly, it could have been a woman who thinks that way :|

I thought it was a well-known fact that the SPON Forums are populated by mysoginistic chauvinistic males who think they are the elite of the human race.....never read that forum if you don't want to get angry.

Keru-chan, I think your points are well taken.

Forgive me for saying this, but there are also plenty of brainless women. Mind you, there are also Barbie doll types who prefer catching a rich guy and then living the easy life from then on.

I think that every girl should be taught to be able to get a job and survive by herself, not depend on a man. Though some of them [the guys] are very nice to have around, and children are not necessarily bad either.

Even now, there are some women stuck in abusive marriages who have no means of support on their own.

I, for one, do not want to go back to the past.

the major problem in our time is, that most women have a double burden because they have a job AND the household/kids. it's pretty hard atm. i don't know whether this will be better in - let's say - 10 years.

i think you should (no matter whether you're a man or a woman) learn to provide for yourself first and then think about a relationship aka maybe even living together. i wouldn't want to be dependent financially because i already have very bad experiences with this topic.
ah, heavens, help me find a proper job XD
