Sometimes it really does feel like tilting at windmills....

So, I managed to become thoroughly infuriated whilst watching the news earlier, and all it took was a cute little story about a local robotics competition for area schoolchildren.

"But karma_aster," you might ask, "how could something like that anger you? After all, that's an event sure to encourage interest in math and science among local students while ( Read more... )

Yep, that's irresponsible reporting.

Quite possibly. Although I'm mostly thinking it's an example of internalized and institutionalized sexism. After all, everyone knows that girls aren't interested in math and science nor as skilled at it as boys, right?

On the bright side, it turns out that a lot of the 11Alive people frequent the Panera where I work, and one apparently overheard me mentioning that I'd sent an email to the network about my concerns, agreed with them, and gave me his card so that I could pass an email to him and he'd make sure it got passed along to the right people.

So, it's nice to know that I'm not ranting in the dark here.

Well done! Gotta love that kind of synchronicity.

Also, at the Decatur fun run a few years ago, "To your left/ is Agnes Scott,/ intelligent women/ are really hot! / DECATUR!"
