There's a lot you could do with this spice-wise. With fresh ginger, I find that it really stands well alone, but clove and cardamom, or cumin, would be good too, and so would cinnamon (unless you're miladycarol).
I could also see this being used as a base, to which other stuff is added. It is not unusual around here for leftover soup to be extended by adding stuff to it. Cheap -and- delicious!
