I'm a Tony/Ziva shipper and haven't liked how the whole thing with Ray was handled. It was out of the blue for what Ray did not to mention the whole Ziva waiting for three hours. I was taken back when I hear that.

There are better ways to have them break up if the show wants Tony and Ziva to get together.

Thank you! If I were a shipper, I think I'd be even more annoyed, because it's such cheap, obvious writing. It's like saying the couple can't get together on their own merits.

I think the best example of how to get two people together slowly is on Castle with Castle and Beckett. There's actual growth in that relationship and a real, mature way of why they aren't together yet.

We're on the 2nd season of Castle on DVD and enjoying it a lot. (Plus the continuing "Hey it's that guy!" (Marc Blucas AND Anne Dudek in one episode.)

I know it's a common trope, but it's rarely done this blatantly and this badly. Was there no way to get rid of Ray and still leave both Ray and Ziva with some dignity?

Common, yes. But so incredibly poorly done? No.

And UGH. Ray cleaning the body/crime scene yet NOT removing ID that labeled her Navy? Seriously? He's not that stupid. He knows Gibbs' team is good and they'd get assigned the case.

It was bad writing. Bad, bad, bad writing. Also, totally unnecessary as there were good reasons Ziva and Ray might not have worked out without the demonising of Ray. This is not only one of my least favourite tropes, it was done in such a hackneyed way.

I miss Jesse Stern's writing on NCIS SO MUCH.

Exactly. It would have taken someone writing the characters like grown-up, and it wouldn't have been as immediately visceral, but it could have been so much more satisfying in the long run. And it would have left the character's integrity intact.

I agree: There is no cocking way Ziva "I-assassinated-my-own-BROTHER" David would wait for 3 hours for a guy. Unless it was someone ELSE to be taken out. Such a waste of a 2 season arc.

I don't even have a ship in this show....well unless it's a kinda Abby/McGee; but that's just 'cause I want to have Abby/Pauley Perrette's babies ;D

Hi Honey! Happy New Year! And totally. I had so much fun "being" Abby for Halloween last year. And EXACTLY. It's bad enough they had to character assassinate Ray to clear the path for Tony/Ziva, but they essentially destroyed her character too. Feh!

you know me I ship T/Z pretty darn hard and I was unhappy with the whole "lets rid of Ray by making him a really bad guy" thing.

I didn't like Ray from the day we met him (I kinda liked him when he was just talked about every now and again). He came across as cocky and uncaring even though he professed to loving Ziva. Not boyfriend material in my book, but he sure did not come across as a bad guy capable of murder and passive aggressive behavior. (well on second thought that empty ring box could be deemed passive aggressive and that pissed me off to no end).

My dissatisfaction comes mainly from how this mess reflects on Ziva (my favorite character). Can they not let her not have a normal realtionship, why does she always have to date psychos all the time?

I really think TPTB were playing to the fanbase who disliked Ray (like me), but took it several steps too far.

"Playing to the fanbase." That pretty much sums up the single worst thing I think ANY show can do. And I thought NCIS was a little better in that regard, because Bellisario doesn't seem to be on Twitter doing any ship teasing, but I'm more tuned into that
happening with slash ships. At least with het-ships there is always some possibility of a shipping fanbase getting their way.

I'm not saying fans don't matter, BUT at some point, you need to tell the story you want to tell and if people hate it, so be it.
If you have to manipulate the fans and the characters to make them want a certain outcome...that's just ugly.
