I think some of that is a viable interpretation, and I can see you've given this a lot of thought. This is just a case where I react so viscerally to what we see on screen which is needy Tony and withholding Gibbs that it's really hard to step back into the fanon far enough to see anything else.

Hey, that's cool! I definitely understand that kind of reaction. I almost started wank on Facebook earlier this week when I made a comment about my thoughts on a particular character in Harry Potter. I understand why some people adore the character, but I don't and I won't because of how he treats other people.

Anyway, if I had to write a paper or a fanfic from your point of view involving these two characters, I could definitely do it. It's not an unfathomable interpretation, not by any means.

You just gave me the chance to ramble my own ideas and I took it. You know how much I like to ramble. ;-)

You know me, I'm not much of a shipper, in writing or reading, and I do see exactly what you're saying. In canon it IS painful to see Tony trying so hard and for Gibbs to ignore/not acknowledge it. That's what fanfic is for (for me anyway). The best writers in my mind are the ones that can take that relationship and present it as we see it, but turn it into something more

YEAHHHHHH...but.

I'll be honest, I haven't read a lot of fanfic for the pairing due to my bias. I'd love to see someone tackle the pairing and take all the issues I have and manage to address them and then make a convincing relationship.

Well, I definitely see him as overly needy. He's like a dog bringing Gibbs back the stick and sitting there waiting for the pat on the head or "good boy," and when Gibbs deliberately withholds, you (or at least I) can actually see the pain in his eyes. But again, this could all just be my personal stuff coming into play.

I wasn't sure if this was a big controversy in the fandom since I'm not really involved beyond my drabble writing and Gibbs/Fornell shipping, but knowing fandom and just seeing some of the responses to this post, it's obviously something that people have at least put a lot of thought into to come to their various conclusions.
