I have tried and tried and tried and tried to see G/Di, just so I can at least say to my G/Di friends (and I have quite a few) oh, yes, whilst I personally can't see it, I can at least see why you can. But I can't.
In eight and a half seasons I have not seen one incident/exchange/whatever that has let me see G/Di even for an instant, even for the 'I can see how you can see it'. Not a single one. Which actually makes me sad because I like to at least be able to see/understand at some level my friends' pairings, but this one (along with one another not NCIS) I simply have never seen :-(
I just don't get this pairing at all - which is fine as others don't get my main one and some of the others I ship.
I personally don't ship G/A (I see it totally as father & daughter), but at least I can see how others can see it as more.
I also don't see that Gibbs regards Tony with any more affection than he regards Tim and Ziva and in later seasons Jimmy too. He's been with Gibbs the longest (bar Ducky and Abby) and in the beginning I saw he mattered more than Kate and Tim. But as time went on, that gap has closed and now I see Gibbs seeing them all as equal in his affections.
We know he and Ducky, he and Fornell and he and Abby are close. We know they are the three pivotal relationships, that's factual canon. But no, I just don't see Tony as a lover or mattering more than the the kids bar Abby of course.
I don't even see Tony as overly needy, not in way some people do.
I want to see it just once, but I've tried, I've been shown 'the' moments and I don't see it. I just see boss & subordinate or uncle & nephew and sometimes father & son.
Well, I definitely see him as overly needy. He's like a dog bringing Gibbs back the stick and sitting there waiting for the pat on the head or "good boy," and when Gibbs deliberately withholds, you (or at least I) can actually see the pain in his eyes. But again, this could all just be my personal stuff coming into play.
I wasn't sure if this was a big controversy in the fandom since I'm not really involved beyond my drabble writing and Gibbs/Fornell shipping, but knowing fandom and just seeing some of the responses to this post, it's obviously something that people have at least put a lot of thought into to come to their various conclusions.
