So I came home to a letter saying that my doctor's office with Cedars is no longer working with my insurance company. Blue Shield isn't paying enough to cover their costs, so they've dropped them. Fabulous.

Nurse Dingbat aside, the care we've gotten at Cedars has been pretty good. Still, if they're not working with our insurance any more,

Oh- it has its drawbacks the socialized medicine! Let me give you an example- I was told I had to switch doctors simply because I moved 15 miles away. No kidding. My kids and I saw the same GP and loved him. Now we have a doc none of us like and it makes me unhappy when I have to take them in. I'd rather go to the ER and have the former doctor's nephew treat me.
And my poor fiance- he got stuck in limbo. Disability does NOT qualify you for any health insurance and cancer will kkick you right out of any plan if it is pre-existing. Finding a doctor that ACCEPTS the insurance we had-that is harder than finding a needle in a field of grass.

My best friend since high school lives not too far from you and had a baby about two months ago close to home. I will find out info for you.

They system is not broken. The HMO is quite profitable, the patients who die are not part of the business plan and indeed are cost saving.

The "Kaiser" was doing their typical dance this past week trying to pressure my friend to remove her mother (age 63) from life support, then Mom came back for a day all chipper and talking... back peddle... yes she did die 4 days later. They were told she was not going to be a candidate for any surgery and did nothing but make her comfortable.
