Pay-per-post Follow Up

Aug 21, 2007 17:38

Pardon the consecutive posts, but I really don't want to merge these two.

Remember my post about pay per post reviews? Today, as I was cleaning out my bloglines, I went through one of the personal blogs I subscribe to. Since the said blogger had a lot of updates, I went through it. Still, as I was reading, I realized what it was like---if you've ( Read more... )

Yes, please don't do that. I've only ever encountered one blog that did that so far and it had me very WTF?ed in the beginning as I had no idea what those sudden "Thank you [sponsor] for supporting my blog" posts were all about.
But even without that, I've seen a few good blogs go to pieces because the owner was starting to be too aggressive in peddling their wares, sponsors or ad clicks. (You're doing well on that front so far.) It's just... dishonest in a way. We've gotten a few "get previews for free" tries on the Daily Tiffin so far and it's very clear that ad people try to gain sneaky entrance into the "free ad" blog world. Let's not make that happen.
I'll happily click on a sponsored ad if the blog/ad content interests me and I support the writer. But I won't ever click on one that the person asks me to click.

*deep breath*

I was sitting on the fence because honestly, the money attracted me. What I really want to do now is to fully maximize kitchen cow's earning possibilities (it's making cents right now, literally ^_^;;) because I want to explore a future where I can live off freelancing and other writing projects, without having to do a dayjob.

But after seeing that blog I mentioned...it really didn't sit well with me. Initially, I figured I could choose what to write about but it looks like THAT's the range already. Insurance. Online dating. Credit cards. It feels like I'm compromising big time if I do that. I mean, I started doing this for the love, not the money after all.

And if it means earning pennies from adsense, well, so be it. At least it covers my el cheapo hosting bill.

it's really hard to balance real, personal writing with hosting expenses. i was in the same dilemma before. but when gaming companies offered to give me freebies in return for reviews, i told them pointblank that i'm not going to sugarcoat my reviews just to sell.

it's still my mantra now even though i realize you still have to put your advertising in the best places possible. in the ideal world, it would be nice if we could just write without the ads...but the writing space is not free...

still...that pay-per-post thing bothers me. XD

For me, your set-up with hneko was okay. It was related to the site, and it was relevant content that have value to your readers. You just get freebies on the side. The pay-per-post thing is...different. You're basically spinning some irrelevant ad to fit your blog. It's the other way around.

Sigh. I really hope that TLA sign-up works. A friend assures me that it's a better advertising model than adsense, but takes time to find advertisers. I hope it pushes through though so I can start moving my lay-out elements around.

Ad Brite was also suggested by a friend of mine. He earns better there daw than Adsense. Adsense kasi you need lots of traffic talaga to generate money. >_<

Haven't tried Ad Brite though.

Thanks for the tip Nina! I plan to remove the giant adsense block on my sidebar if the TLA thingie pulls through. *crossing my fingers* I'll check out ad brite too, with my tiny readership, adsense is a joke. ^_^;;

Oh yeah, Nina! What's your friend's site? Adbrite has a referral program, if he has that on his site, I don't mind signing up through him. Sayang moolah :D
