I saw an opinion essayist toss this phrase into an essay, intending it as an example of how some people on the Left have gone too far --> denying the reality of sex differences while supporting the rights of transgender and nonbinary people, and arguing that gender is a mere societal construction.

And I give you a little twist for your head: There's also a psychical embodiment of your sex. Not just chromosomes and a certain morphology of your body and your social sex role.
To put that in an easily understandable way: The embodiment of your psychical sex shows through your will and partly through your subconscious instincts. Your will what to belong to, what things to want to fit in, what things that people apply to you based on your biological sex which you instinctively feel about "I can live with that".

You Americans, I get the impression like you're instinctively afraid of all things that could lay down "you're more than your conscious will, and there are some things about your self and your behavior patterns that you cannot voluntarily choose to change".

- In this point here I rather tend to speak of just "a strong tendency" because you also encounter women with no such ambitions or sudden change in personality.
Although, in numbers they're fewer than females who become obsessed with giving childbirth anytime in their lifetime. (Such things tell you something about tendencies and give hints towards "things don't follow a completely arbitrary pattern".)

Mind you, "I" study humans for quite long now. I don't say things very lightly.
If I say something about a particular topic, it's pretty thought through.
