As expected, the Christmas holiday season travel & socializing is punching up the death toll.

The annual rate, at 4,000 per day, would be 1.5 million deaths per year in the US.  Do we give a shit about that many deaths?  That's getting into Holocaust territory.

Between 1941 and 1945 Germany murdered six million Jews.  That was 1.5 million deaths per ( Read more... )

Over here, the death rates also get loser to a steady "1000 people per day".
Crematories in heavily-hit areas are working three shifts a day and struggle to keep up until exhaustion with burning the bodies to be able to give the dead a normal burial...

I give a shit. Not sure what I can do except continue to shelter in place at home without any human contact except my beloved housemate.

Agreed.

I care, I'm still trying not to become a statistic, and I know it at least makes it so other people are less likely to die from non-covid causes [even if the people unnecessarily risking catching covid counter-act that, at least I'm not compounding the problem].

It just frustrates me to hear of coworkers driving across half the country and stopping at hotels for the holidays to see their different sets of parents, even if they are masking up on the way, as other coworkers either choose to or are forced to stay home. And then they talk about how they've been on the road for over 40 hours in the past few weeks, like that's a point of pride or I'm supposed to feel sympathy for them, and how they're incredibly grateful for the ability to get out. 🙄️ /vent

Thank you for trying! It would be A LOT WORSE if none of us were trying. We would've already hit millions of deaths instead of just heading there at an annual rate.
