Now my own laptop died
Typing this on my ancient iPad, because the backup laptops and current iPad are at the condo.
My own laptop suddenly died a hard cold death yesterday while I was cooking dinner. It was working normally all day, and then suddenly was cold, dark, unresponsive -- would not reset or power on, wouldn't do anything.

But the way you describe it, it sounds like there is something with the electricity supply at some point in the chain.
With laptops being so tightly built, always better hand it over to human service whose task it is to deal with these...
You don't get them back together once you've torn them apart. (And in the end, it might be some half or fully broken capacitor in the power supply unit...)
