I always thought we should come up with some sort of gender-neutral singular pronouns. But, we already have those? But "it" has horrible connotations, doesn't it (no pun intended). I mean, Silence of the Lambs and all.

"It" can be a huge offense if you try to be something particular.
But so is the whole they/them crap if someone tries to get that to become the standard treatment for all who are stricken with the bad luck to not fit the gender mainstream, but they have a firm idea of who they are.
This should be only something kept for people with dissociative personality disorder - 'cause these have seperate selves that don't want to be thrown in a pot with the others existing inside. Compared to people who are one person, but they only have pretty contradicting sides ( ... )

I always worry for the reactions 'cause I know what the overseas folks tick like and they easily like to be offended in issues like this - for my impression: Because they want to be offended.
At times, they don't really listen and rather like to call you some name out of their spectrum of folks who usually reject their cause. It's like a bubble they're in and seem like they totally can't imagine that somebody exists who calls them on the carpet, but who doesn't oppose the general issue. Who just critisizes them.
