It was exciting at first, as it swept up all my LJ friends, family, partners, and nearly everybody else. I became obsessed with Facebook, and enjoyed receiving Likes and reading people's comments on my posts. I enjoyed interacting with others. I would check Facebook constantly, on my phone if I was away from my laptop

My sentiments exactly. Exactly. I stay off of there, by and large. To people who say, "But I put it on FB", I say I'm never on so if there's anything anyone want to say to me, they ought to send me an email.

Yes, I still use email.

I'd be interested in referrals to some of those third party apps, if Tod is willing to pass them along...
I do not see any good way to disengage from the facebook given my current social structure locally.
Sigh.

Tod recommends a browser add-on called Social Fixer. I haven't tried it.
