[Gau shivers a little, despite the fact that his simple yukata is plenty warm enough for the summer night. There's a chill in his mind, if not in the air, a fear that somehow this will go wrong. That Yoite will be gone already.

He's already lost Yoite once. And that day, he'd been on his way home from school still, not with his friend. He's determined not to let it happen again, the image still clear in his eyes of how he'd come home to Miharu clutching Yoite's abandoned clothing, Hanabusa trying to comfort him, Thobari standing there smoking and looking out-of-place...

He reaches up and touches his hand to the hat on his head -- and Yoite's hat looks so ridiculous with his yukata, but it doesn't matter because Yoite left it for him and it makes him feel close to his friend -- and shakes his head at Raikou.]

I'll be good.

[Raikou sighs, though the calm expression on his face remains unchanged as he reaches back wordlessly to smack Gau rather pointedly upside the back of the head.

Patience is clearly not a virtue that his young partner has learned to grasp.]

[Ukitake of course had been waiting for their arrival so when he hears the first knock he's up and making for the door. The second, louder knock only makes him chuckle. It sounds different from the first one, probably by the second of his two new guests tonight.

There's a smile on his face as the door opens, no trace of any irritation from the second knock.]

Raikou-san, Gau-san.

I trust you didn't have trouble finding my house?

[Gau has no doubt that he should keep his mouth shut and let Raikou do the talking. Raikou is better at these things, and the man before them has been kind enough to let them know about their missing friend, to invite them into his home sight unseen to retrieve him.

Ukitake deserves Raikou's polite tones and gentle explanations.

What he gets, however, is Gau's big mouth, at the moment.]

Is he okay? Is he sleeping? He didn't leave yet, did he?

[He reaches up a hand to clutch at the hat perched on his own head, one he's seen so many times on Yoite. He hasn't tried to wash the stains out, hasn't tried to mend the small tears in the fabric. Yoite's hat, precious, and it has to stay just like when it had been left for him. Something so much more than a funny-shaped piece of beige fabric.

And then the boy's eyes go wide and he takes a step away from his partner, closer to Ukitake, crowding the man's personal space a bit in hopes of getting away from another strike that he expects at his rudeness.]

Gau.

[With a single word, and the hint of displeasure clear in the tone, Raikou is letting his partner know he is most definitely not pleased with the young man’s behavior. The calm expression doesn’t waiver as he both reaches forward to pull Gau back to a respectable distance and places his other hand on the hilt of his gamon before he nods politely towards their white-haired elder.]

Forgive his…impatience… Ukitake-san. And yes, our trip over was, thankfully, uneventful.

[A small, wry smile slips into place as he gives in to his own sense of impatience - his own need to see for himself that Yoite and his young cousin are alright.]

I trust our friends weren’t too difficult for you…right?

[There's a soft laugh at Gau's sudden barrage of questions, and once again, Ukitake isn't exactly bothered. He can understand being worried about his friend, and in some ways, Gau's earnestness and straight-to-the-point questions about his friend remind him a little of Ichigo.]

It is no matter. [He says, with a shake of his head.]

They were fine. I've given them something to eat and a change of clothes for the night. Aah...it would seem my spare clothes were too large for them, but at least they are clean and warm.

[He doesn't mention how Yoite shattered his arm changing his clothes, as there's no need to worry the both of them. It was a simple enough injury to heal, even without the extensive medical training that members of the fourth division had]

[Ukitake steps to the side a bit to allow the pink-haired man and his friend inside.]
