Right.
Which is why she gave as commanding a mew as she could muster, then bumped her head against his fingertips before hopping down to the ground. She gave him a long look over her shoulder, then turned and trotted a few steps away, snagged a chain in her mouth, and began to pull the heavy locket over to him.
Clearly, she expects him to pick it up.

“What have you got there kitty?” he asked as he bent down to look at her treasure. When she was out of the way he could see it was a golden locket with shapes he barely recalled the names of on it and a button on the top. It was obviously valuable and equally clear the cat wanted it for something.
“Do you want me to carry that?” he asked as he picked it up, half expecting the cat to resist him. He was slightly surprised when he was proven wrong and quickly pocketed the locket to keep it safe. “Ah, so you do huh. Well is there anything else you need or shall we go?”
That he’s having a rational discussion with a cat he doesn’t find at all strange. On the contrary he’s endured worse spending three years with Juudai and he knows he’ll face stranger things again.

Guilt still clawed at her, ripped her apart from the inside out, so that she found it hard to look at any of her friends without that pain crashing over her again. Even better that she could hide with people that she almost knew, safe from prying questions or accusatory looks.
Yes, this was the better idea, which is why she simply looked up at him and gave a plaintive mew, as if to ask if they could leave already.

Better to go back to her inspection then, and leave him to his foolish names. The room was a nice enough room, but the part that interested her most was the traces of vaguely familiar scents. And not just the food, or the meat, but scents that she'd been around before. But then... she'd expected that a bit. This one knew her other friends, so it stood to reason that they either lived there, or came here often.
And there was only one way to find out.
Which was pick out the most familiar scent and follow the trail - right out of the room.
