Tobias was hiding, crying in the closet of the small room he'd claimed as 'his own' when he wanted to sleep inside, away from the rain and the weather. He heard Matt's knock, but he didn't move.

He just yelled his reply. "Not really!" He just wanted to cry until his eyes fell out or maybe, just maybe, he'd be able to morph again.

It had been less a question than a fair warning. Matt went in, closing the door behind him.

"Well, I want to, and you don't have to answer, but you'll just hafta deal with listening."

That was reasonable, right? A little tough-love-y, but not too bossy? Matt leaned back against the door.

"I ran away once, too." He remembered the feeling that had driven him all too well, how he'd been so sure everyone's life would've been better without him in it. "I died here 'cause I fucked up, and for a long time after that, I didn't feel like... like I deserved to have people care about me." He made a soft sound that wasn't quite a laugh. "Your dad came to get me. He was pretty determined to prove me wrong."

Tobias scrubbed an arm over his face, trying to hide that he'd been crying, in case Matt decided to barge into the closet, too. He listened, but he was pouting into his arms the whole time, gaze on his toes.

"Yeah, he doesn't seem to understand when people need to be left alone," he replied, a little quieter this time, but certainly loud enough for Matt to hear. "I was fine where I was." Despite being holed up with a scientist that had been running experiments on him.

He'd only called Elfangor to find out if he was the only one who couldn't morph. Which made him wonder... "can you still morph?"

Matt blinked. "I dunno. I haven't tried."

But of course he was going to try now, and he focused on the form he knew best that was small enough for the space, the tiger. Felt his vision sharpen first, and looked to see the stripes tracing up along his forearms, before he had to drop to all fours--yes, it was definitely working.

< Yeah. I can still morph. I had a mark on my face, though. Got a sneaking suspicion it'll still be there when I demorph.

Look. I didn't need to be left alone then. I only thought it was what I wanted.

It's hard, I know it's hard. But it's worth it. >

Tobias figured he'd be able to, and he could hear the disgusting, almost-painful sounds through the closet door. He sighed heavily at Matt's continued insistence, and shook his head a little. "You don't know me," he replied.

"You don't know who I am, or what I've been through. You don't even know what I am, not really." No one did. Even Tobias didn't know what he was anymore. Who he was.

He sighed heavily, curling his toes against the floor. "Why are you here?" Leave me alone.
