Saving your alien arse~ misfortunesfool September 5 2011, 19:51:10 UTC
Yuui's arrival happens with nothing more than a shift within the battle. That split second to deflect an attack with his staff and raise his hand to send glittering sharp shards of ice into the attacker before he turned to look at Elfangor. If this was a place he'd never seen, a battle he'd never had the displeasure to have to fight, he didn't show it in his dispassionate gaze.

Looking on the form of this being, battle-worn and hardened, Yuui simply scowls and snaps irritably, as if reminding a novice of the basics, "Watch your back! I can't be here all the time to save you."

It is one of those rare ground battles, interspersed among the endless space battles. Some planet--they all bleed together, only two sparkling gems among them in his mind to stand out from the rest--and there are Yeerks everywhere, Hork-Bajir and Taxxons and other host species, all brought here in the merciless quest for bloody and glory. But Elfangor knows better; there is no glory in this, only desperation.

It is that same desperation, frazzled and distracted for seeing his comrades bleeding around him, that brings him within a hair's breadth of having a Hork-Bajir tear into his chest with its monstrous talons. And for a moment, he thinks, Is this it? Can it end here, now, finally?

But no. He is here. Once again, in humanoid form, as though to mock him and the choice he had coerced him into making.

< Why are you doing this? Why will you not just let me face my end! Why must you interfere! >

"Why should I just let you die, Elfangor? That's no good!"

It makes no sense to Yuui, as to why he should simply sit back and let this person die for no reason - Not when there were still things left to be done and specific lives that demanded protection from this being.

Surely Elfangor understood that, at least.

He frowned even as the next spell curled to being from the seal glowing before him, white-bright streaks of lightening arcing out of the rippling surface of the spell to rip through several of the long bodies of the Taxxon.

"Are you so willing to abandon your wish or those that are bound to you?"

[Elfangor slowly awakens, a sick sense of dread roiling in his gut. No, no, shit, no, he couldn't have broadcast that over the network...

And yet a quick, darted glance to his Hitomi indicates otherwise.] No, please, I don't-- Not anymore, no. It isn't like that anymore. Why did it have to show--?

[But then he realizes it is still recording, and with a look of abject horror, he shoves it under his pillow. A choking sound is heard before the feed fully cuts.]

[Tobias is just a few yards away outside, when the dream comes across the Hitomi. He mostly ignores things that come across at night, but this one draws his attention. Elfangor's dream.

He watches it. He feels it, and now he understands a little better the kind of 'abandonment' they'd both felt from Elfangor's absence. He pushes away from his perch, flutteres into the house through a window he'd left open into 'his' room. It was still strange, to think of anything belonging to him beyond a meadow and a tree.

He morphes to human and walkes slowly into the bedroom that Matt and Elfangor share. His footsteps are quiet, but not silent, as he approaches Elfangor's side and drops to his knees at his father's side, but he can't think of anything to say. What can he say? What could possibly help? His life without his father had been terrible, he can't exactly lie about that.]

"Father." [A broken whisper makes it past his lips.]

[It's not something Matt's felt for himself, the sense of having nothing left to lose, of fighting all the more fiercely to defend a hope and a memory, and he unconsciously curls closer to Elfangor, murmurs a sleepy denial, no, don't give up.

Don't lose yourself, he means, I'll need you; and when he blinks awake, it's a moment before he realizes that it was only a dream. Another moment before he understands it was the soft sound by the bed that woke him, and he half-sits up, blushing fiercely, but the arm not propping him up is still tight around Elfangor's chest, as if Matt could anchor him that way. Mine, I can't ever lose you.]

It's okay, [he says, drowsily, to both of them. To all three of them.] It's okay now, we're together.

[The hard lump that has lodged in his throat, a knot of guilt for having them see this, this shameful fracture within him, it makes it hard to speak. He's not sure what there is to say. The dream, no, memory, it sits there, still fresh in his mind, mocking him--this is part of who you are, Beast. It's wormed its way into his mind, into the darkest corners... worse than a Yeerk in his head, because it came from within himself.

But that was before, he insists, firmly. Before, a lifetime ago. Before he met Tobias for the first (and by that timeline, last) time, had the chance to give him the weapon he'd needed by being in the right place at the right time. It hadn't been until then that he'd seen how necessary his absence had been, and he still hated it, but he at least could see why.And afterward, when he came here, to this world ( ... )
