Week 26, Day 1 - [accidental video]

[ Allen sort of appears to have come out of nowhere, and materialized near a fountain. He looks around, confused. ]

This isn't where I meant to be! I meant to go back, not…where is this, anyway?

[ He looks around, and the golem following him sweeps down towards the recording device. The video shakes, and goes dark for a minute, as the golem picks

[Well isn't this a face he hasn't seen around in a while. Though from the looks of things, his memories of the place seem to have flown from the cuckoos nest.]

[ Allen tilts his head and looks confused. ]

[ Allen's eyebrows knit together. Who is this guy, anyway? And are there really dango around here? It's been awhile since he ate. The Inspector had given him something he trusted but he really hadn't had much, and those looked delicious. ]

[For several seconds that feel much longer, Lenalee can only stare at the screen. She knows that is Allen's face. She knows that is Allen's voice. She knows that is Timcanpy interfering with the video, and she knows that people suddenly appear in this place all the time. But she still doesn't believe it right away. It is a broadcasted dream that she is interpreting as real, or... something, anything, a projection of her own wants onto the network. She is afraid to think "Allen is back" with any certainty, least she prompt something to prove her wrong

[ Allen looks surprised, at that. He'd just seen her, hadn't he? She was crying, when he left. And he couldn't blame her, but he still felt bad. He hadn't had a choice, but this wasn't where he'd meant to come.
She was probably going to yell at him, wasn't she?

If she pays enough attention, she'll notice that he is, in fact, still wearing the clothes he'd been wearing in that prison cell, and not his familiar Exorcist coat. ]

Lenalee...I...

I don't know if "back" is the right way to put it...

[ He forces a smile, but it doesn't hit his eyes. ]

[It's hard to see more than just his face over the small screen now, but his expression makes her wonder. Another glance at the initial video and it will click.]

Maybe not.

[It feels like Allen is back to her, as it felt like getting back when she returned here after watching him leave at home. But if he has no memories of this place then he wouldn't know what she means. Lenalee can tell him that he was here before, for many months, but she isn't sure that she can explain exactly what this place came to mean to him. It was hard enough for her to understand it when he tried to explain.]

Where is it that you meant to go?

[ He looks apologetic for a moment. ]

Just somewhere. I can't seem to get back, though, like the Ark won't listen or something.

[When Rin first sees this message while perusing the network, she doesn't really believe it. It doesn't sink in until after a few moments of just. Staring at it.

There have been so many people leaving and no familiar faces coming recently, that -- yes, she's going to do the impulsive thing for now.

Which is saying his name loudly, with no small bit of surprise. Just to make sure she's not imagining things. Which, everything considered, is not even that unlikely.]

[ He's polite enough, but his face is a bit blank. He has no idea who this girl is! ]

[And that is really all it takes for Rin to realize. Doesn't remember. Fine, she can deal with that. Isn't even crying. Is she finally beyond that? Mostly, she just feels weary.]

Ah, I'm sorry. I must have...

[DEEP SIGH.]

Okay, this is weird. Right? Some strange girl replying to you and calling your name -- uhm, well. Let me try to explain.

You're in a world called Kannagara -- or at least I think we're still there -- and it pulls people like us from their homeworlds. Strange, huh? Well, it gets stranger! Because sometimes, it sends those people back... and then pulls them in again! And that's how I know you. Because you were here before.

[Deep breath, and watching the Hitomi with a Very. Expectant. Stare.]

This is really strange, though, you're right.

[ He seems skeptical, but sorry, at the same time. This really is a lot to take in, but if more than one person is saying almost the same thing, surely it's the truth...? ]

It's not what he's expecting, especially here in this strange world that is/isn't Kannagara, in this unfamiliar environment. Strangers appearing would be one thing, but to see such a familiar face, out of nowhere, here in Edo like this...

It's something Gau's mind can't quite handle, not really.

But rather than puzzle over it and angst over it and let it confuse and worry him? He lets the initial excitement at seeing that face wash over him, carry him with it.

Thus what the young man gets is green eyes and a wide smile, very close to the screen.]

Oh, um, h-hi!

[ Wow, this sure is a change from how people have been lately! The people he's spoken to so far seem happy to see him, instead of like they want to kill him, or turn him into a Noah, or lock him in prison. It's strange, but not unwelcome. ]

Well, perhaps Gau is a little too sensitive at the moment anyway, considering this world has just done this very thing to him.

Green eyes go wide, and then he blinks for a moment, before nodding.]

I'm sure you're really confused right now, aren't you? The gods do love to play with people that way.

[Later, he'll cry. For now, he has a newcomer to greet.]

I am kind of confused, yeah...

[Matt never knew him all that well, but Allen was close to Elfangor, which is as much of a recommendation as Matt needs. Plus, Allen was very kind to him when Matt needed it, was there with him when almost anyone else's presence would've been unbearable.

...and Allen probably doesn't remember any of that.]

[ Allen looks confused. Was he really here before? This guy - Matt - seems to think so. And Lenalee said he was "back," and people recognize him. This is just getting weirder. ]

No, I've never been here before, I'm sure.

It's one of the ways this place fucks with us. I've known two different versions of my best friend here.

But I only knew you a little before, so I'm not working off any preconceived notions.
