Sam-I-Am was good enough to send me some pictures of the kusudama that I made her for Christmas so that I could show you all what I've been doing with my Sunday afternoons, of late:
It's actually fairly easy once you get the knack of it, it's just sort of time-consuming. But I like having something to do with my hands when I'm just hanging out visiting with family and friends, so I got four of them made in the past few weeks.
Everyone always asks that and I never have a good answer. *laughs* I tend to make a few petals any time I'm sitting down for long without something to occupy my hands, so I don't really have a very good idea of how long these take all together. I did sit down and make half of one straight through once, and that took me a couple of hours, but that was only my second attempt at making one of these and I was still figuring out how best to go about it. I should sit down and just see how long it take me to make a whole one sometime.

Thanks, I enjoy making the ornaments, they're something I can do with my hands while I'm visiting with people.
