In which my heart is broken

So I was looking up the lyrics for CCR's "Down on the Corner" so that I could sing it for that meme, because ruthette requested it, knowing full well that no one actually knows what 95% of the words are to that song.

I always thought the second stanza of that song went something like this:

Booster hits the wa____________________mile ( Read more... )

It took me a long time to figure out that the line was "doubles on kazoo."

I also like to tell the story that for the longest time, I thought the first line of "Brown Eyed Girl" was Hey Roderigo.

What is the first line of that song?

I've always sung it as "Hey, where do we go?" But I have no idea if I'm right. That is very much a make up the words kinda song.

You've got it.

There's a later line "going down the old mine with a transister radio." For a long time, I understood the words to be "gunnin' down the old man with a transister radio." I think I had a visual image of a teenager blaring a radio in the vicinity of an old man. Hey, it was the 80s! Ghetto blasters were all the rage.

Oh like rock music lyrics are supposed to make sense anyway...

Why would they go down an old mine? this song makes no sense!

I always thought it went 'the devil's own canoe', presumably some sort of American slang for good (or bad) dancing ;)

What is a kalamazoo? I always thought it was an international congress of mediaevalists (or at least the site thereof), but on the whole, that makes even less sense than the satanic canoe...

I've never heard of it being an instrument, myself. Kalamazoo is a city in...Michigan? I think? *wikis* Yes, Michigan. Ah, and it looks like Gibson makes/made a guitar that they named after the city, so that explains that.
