In which my heart is broken
So I was looking up the lyrics for CCR's "Down on the Corner" so that I could sing it for that meme, because ruthette requested it, knowing full well that no one actually knows what 95% of the words are to that song.
I always thought the second stanza of that song went something like this:
Booster hits the wa____________________mile,
______umps the ____________os for a while.
Poorboy _____________________ on his kalamazoo.
Willy goes into a dance, the Devil's on kazoo.
And that last line always kind of tickled me, the idea of this band that has the Devil playing the kazoo. (I mean, what else would the Devil play, after he lost his golden fiddle, right?) I don't know why, I just found it sort of charming and chuckle-worthy. But here I'm looking up the lyrics, and it turns out this is how it actually goes:
Rooster hits the washboard and people just got to smile,
Blinky, thumps the gut bass and solos for a while.
Poorboy twangs the rhythm out on his kalamazoo.
Willy goes into a dance and doubles on kazoo.
So all this time it's been Willy playing the kazoo and not the Devil. *sniff* I'm so disappointed! I will never be the same!
