Weekend notes

Aug 11, 2008 09:27

1. I owe a couple of people icons, and I had ideas for a Supernatural set in mind, but since I ended up having almost no computer-room time this weekend, none of them happened. Instead, see the new icon (the incredibly Marie-appropriate term appears courtesy of shoebox2) that I whipped up for myself in the five minutes of computer-room time that I did have ( Read more... )

1) you owe me an icon from LIKE TWO YEARS AGO, slattern!

2) lemon and sugar are really all you need in life. Plus Netflix.

3) but is pretty.

4) I love ZZ top and southern rock too, especially for cardio (hums 'cricafixaflat')

5) Did you stay up all night reading?

6) Jealous of your closets.

7) Oh, the funny!

1. I know! I realized this when someone else who requested an icon the same way reminded me about their (also very overdue, but not as overdue as yours) request. I am such a useless floozy.

2. It's true. *nod*

3. I know, that's how it keeps me coming back even though I know I will make myself CRAZY!

4. Also, "Devil Went Down to Georgia." I think I've listened to just that one song fifteen times in the past week.

5. No, I needed sleep too much. And things kept preventing me from sitting down and reading, so I missed my Finish Book by Sunday Evening goal.

6. *buffs nails on lapel*

7. I KNOW! *laughs*

I've always wanted to make vanilla sugar. I bet it'd be great on cereal.

My mom also sometimes makes Orange Toast, which is just marvelous. Buttered bread sprinkled liberally with a mixture of sugar and orange zest, then put in a hot oven until crunchy. So good.

The Monster Classic Rock Fixation that Supernatural caused has, itself, led to a Southern Rock Jag. I'm kind of in love with ZZ Top, at the moment.

Ha, every time I find occasion to wear finery, I usually think of ZZ going "Every girl crazy 'bout a sharp-dressed man..."

Did I tell you my love affair with Classic Rock started one night in the last century when I downloaded "Free Bird" and listened to it loud on headphones? That was a musical epiphany par excellence. :-D

That sounds amazing. *makes note*

Bwah! For me, it was "Devil Went Down to Georgia," but yeah, it was a similar Eureka! moment.

Vanilla sugar is really easy to make - just toss a vanilla bean or two (sticky, squishy ones - not the dried ones) in to a food processor and whir until fine. Then add a couple cups of sugar and whir again! Voilà!

I heard you can just sink a couple vanilla beans into a container of sugar and wait a week, then as you use the sugar up, replace it with plain for a constant supply.

1. I still totally want my "low sodium freaks" icon. Perhaps I shall put out an APB request.

2. Yes, 'twas I who mentioned the lemon sugar. I, too, googled, and was saddened to find that Domino no longer makes lemon sugar. I have a box in my cupboard, you see. Unopened. I guess that makes it a collector's item? But still, good to know it can be made. Because, dude. It could be very useful.

4. That's because ZZ Top is excellent. If you go wandering YouTube and have not seen any of their videos, you must look up "Sharp Dressed Man" and "She's Got Legs" (which, eventually, was used for L'Eggs commercials. Back in the day). Also, on the Southern rock front, I assume you've been looking into Lynard Skynard, yes?

I have started using a hybrid of mapping skills, a combination of both Google and the more flexible actual map (ala Winchesters) approach. It's much easier to follow when you miss your exit or something.

1. It really does need to be made. It's on the task list! The task list is just really long, and includes things like "file giant box of papers" and "write Generic SPN Episode S3 script."

2. Yay lemon sugar!

4. Oh yes, I already had one Skynard album on the iPod courtesy of a friend, and I downloaded a few particularly popular hits to flesh out the selection. I have "Sweet Home Alabama" stuck in my head, at the moment.

Neeheeheehee, I don't know if you remember this or not. Finnish prog rockers + Soviet Red Army Choir + Skynyrd = FTW!

Hi, I'm back! :-) Email headed your way later, hopefully. *looks at task list, which is really not as long as it seems, except for the laundry bit*

1. Aw, there needs to be more icons!

7. *dies* Um, yes. Google Maps sometimes only very loosely approximates reality.

You're baaaaack!!! *tacklehug*

1. I know, I meant to make some this weekend, but I just could not get upstairs for more than a few seconds. Got the cleaning bug and had to rid our lives of useless detritus or else have my brain explode.

7. And I love that it's even two brothers in the comic strip. Hee!

Mmmmm, lemon sugar. I'm definitely making this!

I'm not laughing at the quilling snare, oh no. :D

The pixies want to make baking on Friday afternoons a regular thing, and I was thinking at some point we should make your salt caramels!

(Do not laugh at me! This is all your fault!)

Right on! Making the salt caramels is definitely a team sport. Just hope you don't have to break up a pixies fight while you're stirring the really hot caramel!

Who me? *whistles innocently*

Heh, yeah, baking with them is simultaneously hilarious and crazy-making. They're both really enthusiastic, just...in need of direction to avoid them getting in each other's hair. Heh.
