1. You know the drill: Had a lovely, relaxed three-day weekend, during which I checked LJ not at all. If I missed anything important/amusing/awesome/whatever, leave me a link in comments, pretty please!

2. Quilling: Quilling snowflakes is like asking to go insane. I finally realized that trying to make six identical shapes out of tiny strips of ( Read more... )

Did some quilling myself this weekend - proof is over here: http://supplyship.livejournal.com/14582.html

With snowflakes, you definitely need to make all your circles first, before shaping them into marquises, teardrops, etc. so you can get the size about the same.

Hey, would you email me your mailing address? Not for anything bad, I promise! :) opaquekate at yahoo dot com.

Ha, yeah, my first snowflake was made before I figured out the make-all-circles-before-shaping thing. It's very...special-looking. Heh. This would all be so much easier if I just found and read directions, but no, for some reason I have to make up all my own moves. Which means a fair bit of re-inventing the wheel. Story of my life.

(Mailing address is away! Yay mail!)

I've always enjoyed stories that play with the weird rules of faerie/elfland/whatever, like protective rings and salt and steel and whatnot.

I'm so bringing my season 1 Supernatural DVDs when I come down for your bday. Yep. Salt and protective circles and silver knives and cold iron.... *g*

I was actually thinking about Supernatural during the movie. I love when a show/movie/book plays with chewy rules like these.

I'm not sure about your level of electronics geekiness (my own is pretty low), so the first one might not be as funny.

I'm very bad at horror movies, but I'm kind of tempted by Spiderwick Chronicles. Then again, cramming five books into one movie seems a bit . . . unrecommended.

Spiderwick isn't much of a horror movie, it's very much a fantasy, and a pretty tame one, at that. The kids get a little scratched up by goblins, but nothing it didn't bother my sisters-in-law, so I'd say the scare factor is pretty low.

Re. cramming seven books into one movie...I think that's why the pacing is a little rushed, but if the first book is anything to go by, I can see why they crammed all the books into one film. The book was fun, and cute enough, but very short, with lots of pictures. The film certainly does a better job of cramming them in than I would have expected.
