Could someone please tell me that Gods and Generals eventually picks up and becomes less enmeshed in the emotional family issues and angst of various future generals after the first few chapters? Because seriously? If someone doesn't start at least talking about going to war soon, I'm giving up and read North & South. At least that's supposed to be ( Read more... )

I was upset enough when I learned it was NOT about the various machinations of now-worshipper-less ancient gods attempting to reassert influence on Earth by driving various factions in the New World against each other. ;-)

That would be cool...I think we need a Stargate/Civil War crossover as badly as we need a Gone With the Wind/Lovecraft crossover.

They eventually went to war in the movie but I can't vouch for the book.

Yes, North and South is all kinds of sudsy. Assuming that the miniseries is true to the book. (Patrick Swayze in Confederate Gray. 'Nough said.) :-)

I started the book yesterday and so far it's less soapy than I'd expected, given the presence of Swayze in the tv version. It may lather up as it goes along, though.
