1. Have returned from camping trip. Failed to be eaten by zombie bears. A full report, complete with amusing anecdotes and pictures, may be on the way.

2. Read The Killer Angels while on vacation. I may be in love with Gen. James Longstreet ( Read more... )

Just so you know, the proper name for the "Civil War" is the War of Northern Aggression.

Yeah, my dad spent some time growing up in Georgia, so he has a lot to say about what he calls "Mr. Lincoln's War".

See also "The Late Unpleasantness." I like this one, as it reminds me of Robert E. Lee's gentlemanly tact in referring to the Union as "those people." ;-)

"The Late Unpleasantness." I love it. The gentility of so many facets of the war is one of the things that fascinates me. The contrast between the gentlemanly behavior of so many of the era's luminaries and the savagery of the warfare is intriguing.

Im still stuck in the Regency period and tall sailing ships to boot, so I cant help feed the obsession with the Civil War.

Crochet should be easier than knitting...is funny, because Ive been crocheting for the longest time and only just last week learned how to knit...I can see where it drives one crazy...one needs VERY fine motor skills to make it go fast. I always look at crochet as making a bunch of neat little loops with one needle though. Go to Crochetville if you want to find some neat patterns...its a forum of crocheters and they love beginners.

Jamie Bamber goodness -- yummm!!

Bamber really is so cute. His character on BSG annoys me because he's all angsty and has a lot of dumb issues that could easily be solved by actually communicating with people like his dad and his best friend. But I love him in Hornblower, esp. in the later movies where he's all quippy.

Thanks for the pimp!

I have not successfully learned to either crochet or knit. I made an attempt to learn crochet, I think I made one thing. My sister was going to teach me to knit last Christmas, but something happened, I forget what, which made it impossible.

My string-craft of choice is Macrame.

Welcome back! Well, I parodied HP#7 over at mollyringwraith, but that's only exciting if you've finished the book, I reckon.

Re. Civil War...I've had Jakes' 'North and South' trilogy, or at least book one of it, on my meaning-to-read list for at least a year. Maybe you'll get there first and tell me how it is.
