A few other books/ series you might want to try, if you haven't: A Companion to Wolves (Sarah Monette/ Elizabeth Bear), Melusine (Monette), The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms (NK Jemisin), and The Left Hand of God (Paul Hoffman).

I've read them all except for The Left Hand of God, which looks awesome, thank you for the rec! I will definitely give it a go. I think of the ones I read, The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms is my favorite... although that reminds me, I haven't read the third one in that series yet...
