~ I have got tix to Chekhov's Three Sisters at the Classic Stage Company. The production stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard, among others, and I am super excited. I am really fond of Chekhov, although I perhaps prefer The Seagull to Three Sisters but still! CSC is a really great venue; the last thing I saw there was Orlando, which despite ( Read more... )

Merlin fandom is a very strange fandom to write in. Whatever it is, though, I will be reading it! :D

It is a very weird fandom. I kind of wish I'd got into writing it before though, when it was all shiny and new? BUT YAY for reading. btw, Your bigbang fic is on my kindle waiting to be read on my next epic subway ride! I am so excited.

Incidentally, I would totally read more het in this fandom (I ♥ Arthur/Gwen... actually, I ♥ Arthur/anyone, really) if the long fic were... better written??? Because my true OTP is Merlin/Arthur/Gwen/Morgana in varying permutations.) but the problem is that most of the long fic is slash (which I love, don't get me wrong) and if it is het... it isn't... very good? This makes me sad. I also don't like het that is ANTIslash, which so much of it is. THIS MAKES ME HAVE SADFACE.

I definitely get the sense that it was a more fun, more OT4 sort of fandom back in the early days.

The het in this fandom isn't very good, no, which is too bad, as I would read a lot of it. But this is a very young fandom (both in terms of age of people, and I think for a lot of people it is one of their first fandoms) and it's just different from what I am used to.

My BB fic was defintely a challenge, and I wouldn't hold it up as my best Merlin fic, but some people seemed to like it. :) I hope you do, too. (there are references to various permutations of OT4 in it, too, though nothing really explicit besides Arthur/Merlin)

I feel certain I will :D I started out in the fandom opposed to the modern AU, but then I read some of them, and they converted me!

I can definitely see what you mean re: it being a young fandom... it's interesting. I haven't been in a fandom that skewed that way for a long time... I guess there was HP, but I was pretty young myself then ;-)

Oh, very sad to hear you're not a Greenspan fan. I coordinated all the fundraising for Faust with Target Margin 5 years ago, and have loved him ever since. I can see how he might not appeal to everyone though.

Oh, sorry! I'm sure he's a lovely fellow... I just. I didn't see Faust, but I guess the repetitive camp just really gets on my nerves. It feels really one-note and one-dimensional and doesn't seem to alter in entirely different plays.

He was really awesome! And that stuff about queer desire being a utopian impulse, in and of itself, i.e. desiring "otherwise" is really doing wonders for my project.
