~ I love mlawski over on Overthinking It more than words could possibly convey. Her analysis of Doctor Who S5, for instance, sent me into full on, air punching, something is RIGHT on the internet joy. And this female character flowchart (click to embiggen) is a thing of beauty. Don't just look at it, run any of your favorite (or un-favorite) female ( Read more... )

Oh, man, Sorkin and the interwebs... I remember that!

God the ep with the Trekker was really hard for me to watch... I think I was 15 or 16 or so and The West Wing was family fun hour and I felt like Josh was talking about ME! I was so mortified to be watching that with my parents!

It was kinda crazy, wasn't it?

I love the part in that ep. where he's all "I'm a sports fan... but here's what I don't do, etc." when OMG, Sorkin, you wrote an entire show where all people do is talk about sports. Wow.

The funny part about the fandom stuff was that it never seemed to fit into the episode at all. It was always just sort of weirdly out of place.

On Paul Henry - I'm speechless. Why are the cameras still rolling? Wasn't there some grownup back there screaming and trying to stop him? Stuff like this makes me suspicious when my friends try to convince me that New Zealand is better than the US. I find myself thinking it's the same old sh*t, only with an accent that used to belong to the Commonwealth...

I know! And it seems to go on forever, doesn't it?

I've actually heard some scary things regarding Australia in that regard, but the NZ stuff is new to me.

Wait, are crushes on Michael J. Fox in "Back to the Future" not allowed? Nobody told me that!

I've seen "The Social Network," and I loved it. I actually was more offended by the Wise Woman Lawyer Character thrown into it, but that could be because I was like, "No second-year lawyer would be doing this stuff..."

I used to get made fun of regarding this crush a lot! Defensive Kali is Defensive!

I am really looking forward to The Social Network. At his best, I think Sorkin is one of the finest script writers out there. It's just that sometimes... he really bothers me (and it's often when he's responding to perceived criticism) like the egregious speech about "art" that he gives to Laura Dern in Poet Laureate... But that doesn't have anything to do with his talent!

That flowchart is amazing. Only one thing disappoints me-- they had a bubble for "Girl Hitler", which was an EXTRAORDINARY opportunity to insert a Venture Brothers character (aptly named "Girl Hitler"), but they didn't! Ahh well. :)

Totally missed opportunity! But VB is like a meta-tastic paradise for this kind of thing.

I saw that Sorkin thing and marvelled at his inability to learn and grow when it comes to defensiveness on the internets. Then again, I know I haven't always learned and grown myself in my behavior on the internets, so I should probably not cast too many stones. *g* But yeah.

Good to see you!

But casting stones is fun! (And you seem fine on the internets to me!)

Good to see you too!
