I'm so glad you liked it. Because damn, I love this movie hard (although I think The Prestige actually makes a number of statements I'm more interested in, even if they are smaller).

Also, Arthur/Eames, you bring the pretty.

Arthur/Eames = definitely pretty.

It's interesting because to me, The Prestige was about performance (the story you sell) whereas Inception was about narrative (the story you are) -- so they felt very connected in my head. Because it's sort two sides of the same thing, except it has only one side like a mobias strip. It got very interesting in my head while I was watching it.

Yes to all. I think of Nolan's work, they are the two films that are speaking to each other. The part that connects them for me, is the matter of Bowie being cast as Tesla and the moment of discovery in the field of discarded top-hats. That's the most intense moment of horror I have watching the film every time, because it's where the Wrongness is clear, the application of it later is merely inevitable. And there's that sense of Wrongness and Truth being counter to the Experience of Truth that also runs through Inception.

Also did you read the somewhat oddly hilarious BBC coverage of the Tea Party thing, wherein they're all "our correspondent on the scene said the crowd was could natured, but convinced the government was taking away their rights" which sort of read as British for "these people did not shoot me, but are delusional."

I did. I feel like I am watching some reality tv version of reality when I look at this stuff.

I've had a distorted, persistently amnesiac Sherlock Holmes looking over my shoulder in my head (if you know what I mean) on a near-constant basis since I was about 9. He's not really Sherlock Holmes, because he's interested in things besides crime, and even if I say stuff to him, he generally doesn't respond directly; he usually isn't aware of my presence, or if he is, it's only in the role of a sounding board. But he makes comments, speculations, and inferences about what he's seeing through my eyes several times a day (often on technology or perceived social mores), and I enjoy listening to it. It's sort of soothing, especially since it resets every half hour or so, and never seems to accrete any sort of permanent knowledge. I don't know why my general brain chatter decided to bud off into this specific viewpoint 20 years ago, and it sounds like a different thing from the question you're asking, because obviously Mr. Holmes was never a personal acquaintance, but I thought it might be somewhat germane.

looking over my shoulder in my head (if you know what I mean)

the amazing thing is that I do.

Indeed, it is something slightly different than what I was asking, but definitely of the same area if not same genre. The interestingly germane part is that he's not really talking to you, if you know what I mean, which makes it all v. fascinating.

I'd guess that a lot of people have a portion of their brains dedicated to viewing the world from the perspective of a recently arrived time traveler, but I'd be interested to know how many of them tend to be from Victorian London, as opposed to any other particular place and time.

Yay Inception, possibly my favourite New Movie! I never thought a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio would be a favourite of mine :)
As you and rm say, Arthur/Eames are the pretty, but who I'd like to see more written about are Ariadne and Yusuf, not in the same as as A & E, but still :)

Leo has really not grown up well in terms of hotness. I thought Yusuf was about 50 times hotter. Mmm.

I just adore Ellen Page beyond the telling of it. And yes, I think there are great stories there, though I confess I am always a bit at a loss to understand movie fandoms. Two hours does not exactly canon make, for me.

I talk to *myself* all the time, out loud. Does that count at all? And I address myself as "Stacey" and "you," almost as if I am a completely different personage.

I talk to myself all the time too! But then again, I also talk to my computer, books, random inanimate objects...Maybe I just talk a lot. :P

But do they talk back?

Sadly, no. Occasionally my computer glares at me (I swear, it does) but I've yet to have an actual conversation with any of the things I talk to.
