~ D. & I just got back from Inception which I loved, loved, loved. For me, it was this amazing meta loveletter to cinema and -- much more than say, Avatar -- really showed what you can do with narrative construction in this medium. This movie could not be a play. It simply wouldn't work. It couldn't be a novel either. It had to be film, not because of the special effects, but because of the narrative itself and its diegesis, and that's something you don't often see. We got into a very interesting conversation afterwards, based on a particular moment in the movie, about internal people -- that is, talking to internal people in your head -- D. does, I don't, Christopher Nolan obviously does (and it turns out, much in the same way D. does which was a bit eerie). We started to wonder idly about what other people do, and how they do it, if they do. (I was also mildly curious to see if there was a relationship to gender in this somewhere.) And thus, a very non-scientific poll.
