Such is the Gordian knot of post-modern thought: Monday grab bag because I forgot to do Sunday's

Feb 21, 2011 12:41

Hello, LJ! It's been a long time! I've decided to do the return of the return of the return of the Sunday grab bag entry, except today I'm doing it on a holiday Monday. Oh, shut up. It's been ages since I've updated. I've been battling zombies, depression, ennui, and enervation that produces a state of mind wherein I decide that my life is naught ( Read more... )

It is good to see you back, in your own blog and at the Bar.

I guess you are not all that torn up about Magog's passing. Ironically, PG was possibly the only person who was upset about that. You only hit the ones you love, I guess.

I liked Magog better when he was a giant space god bringing peace to the world, ending famine and whatnot. I didn't pay much attention to him once he took over whatshisname's body and whatshisname became Magog because I'm not fond of the way that he was written. I wasn't even aware that he was dead. What happened?

Here's what happened: after Magog's unnecessary solo series was cancelled, Max Lord took control of him and sent him to kill Captain Atom. Only this was a frameup, as Max planned to have Magog kill himself, make everyone who witnessed it see Cap Atom kill Magog, and make everyone think that the burst of radiation from Magog's altered lance came from Cap Atom as well.

Magog dead. Cap Atom framed for murder and for the resultant radiation blast in Chicago. And with Magog dead, the events of Kingdom Come are prevented, as per Max's instructions from the White Lantern. Why he needed to frame Cap Atom is still to be revealed.

All this was in Justice League: Generation Lost, which has been a lot better than a comic by Judd Winick has been in ages. It's still really iffy sometimes, but I expected to hate it and I haven't.

Sigh.

Did you read the Captain Atom/Authority crossover where he and Angie had drippy kissing sessions? (Because they were both covered with metallic substances.) I liked that Captain Atom and hoped that he'd stay around.

Nice to see you. Dylan Moran is great. I keep trying to find a full collection of Black Books episodes.

I've been searching for a good complete torrent of Black Books for quite awhile and haven't found anything. I think they're out on DVD, however.

Yay a Kali!

And, I have no idea who Heimdall actually is, but whoever they have cast as him looks AWESOME.

Idris Elba starred in the excellent The Wire. Heimdall is the unceasingly vigilant guard at the entrance to Asgard on the rainbow bridge. He's known for bravery, courage, and the inbred refusal to take any shit from any potential threat to Asgard.

He is, in a word, a bad-ass motherfucker.

Isn't it? I know I keep saying this, but it looks like Jack Kirby himself designed it.

Heimdall: Cool in five thousand ways.

"Did she just punch me into Canada?" should be up there with "He punched the highlights out of her hair!" in the pantheon of absurd comic book lines about punching.

Possibly the best line in Scott Pilgrim!

Yes, "She punched me to Canada" should go into that elite pantheon of excellence. You gotta be quick to get the drop on Diana, know what I'm saying?
