Also in terms of the insularity, oh yes, that's why people need to travel. I've been lucky enough to live in places like New Zealand where the Pacific in all its colors is there. Or even just going to a big city, its so good for someone to be in a place where being white doesn't mean you're the majority.
Also Avatar is on my Netflix queue, I've been meaning to watch it for a while, life just hasn't always been useful that way.

It's all made-up. They don't know that so much of the world is based on real cultures, they don't get how much attention to detail and research the creators put into the cartoon, because they've NEVER SEEN THESE CULTURES, IRL.I can imagine looking at the show and not being able to see which parts are drawn from which real world culture, or assuming that the text is all gibberish when it so is not. But what seems to be under discussion here is a level of ignorance that is literally incomprehensible to me. Were there no "Eskimos" in the social science books? I mean, it doesn't require a sophisticated knowledge of Native nations to pick up on some of the Water Tribe stuff. I know, because I don't have one ( ... )
