A new Solicit-O-Rama tomorrow? And what would it take to get listed on that?

A simple reminder! I'd love to Pimp Your Literary Ride, Good Sir. How are you?

I thought of you last week when I was walking to my doctor's office and saw this beautiful (and very characteristically Bay Area) planting in someone's front yard that consisted of a riotously blooming Distictis buccinatoria on a trellis surrounded by a creamy yellow species Abutilon with red veining, a creamy white Alstroemeria with a fiery crimson throat, a few more pastel cream and peach Alstroemerias, and a few other plants that I suddenly can't recall. I think some 'Paprika' yarrow was involved. It was all so breathtaking in juxtaposition that I wish that I'd had a camera. Oh, there was also a GIANT Romneya -- easily eight feet in height -- that was saturated in giant white blooms. And some 'Chocolate soldier' aquilegia.

I have to get out that way one of these days. Don't get me wrong: we're still in full wildflower explosion (as my asthma keeps reminding me), and my daylilies are in full bloom. I won't even get into the riot of roses, especially the new Earthkind disease-resistant ones, and the Datura blooming on the front porch. It's just that I'm craving some new sights right now so I can appreciate what I have at home. (The good news is that I'm doing a book signing in Portland on June 20, and I'll be hanging out at the Sarracenia Northwest open house event afterwards, so I'll be up to my eyeballs in botanical wonders.)

Heeeey, what kind of roses do you have? And what cultivar of Datura? I didn't realize that Daturas would grow out there; I've always read that they're somewhat aversive to extreme heat and dry air. They grow FANTASTICALLY out here in the cool and the fog.

How many daylilies in your garden? Seriously, I wish to know. Do you grow herbs at all? If so, do you drool over the seventy thousand varieties of thyme from Richter's?

Book signing! Wooohooooo! That's FANTASTIC.

I wonder, though, if it would be possible to a noir series set in Harlem that did not automatically include a picture of the Apollo Theater on the cover. Because while the cover is nicely done, with the leaf accents and the homage to Luke's shredded shirt, using an image of the Apollo is lazy the same way that using one of the spires of the Golden Gate Bridge and/or the sound of a cable car bell to indicate San Francisco is lazy.

When did Firestar go back to her old costume? /crawls back under rock

Also, is there any indication of why the sam-hill these four characters who, AFAIK, have nothing in common, would suddenly be BFFs?

I actually really, really love the costume that Angelica wore during the Perez era, the costume with the beautiful mask cut in the shape of flames and the striking bodysuit. That was SUCH a classically gorgeous Marvel look. The art of her here actually looks like the art from the X-Men: First Class covers of Jean Gray. Even her hair's vertically arrayed like Jean's was! So I do wonder if Jelena pulled a fast one and is reusing her not-so-old art of Jean.

As far as friendships go, Angelica and Monica definitely know each other and served together at the same time on the Avengers. It's likely that Patsy would at least know of both of them. I'm waiting to see how a connection between Monica and Felicia is made because I don't recall them ever meeting in canon.

I liked the old costume--classic, as you say--but I have a lot of attachment to the issue where she and Nita tear apart Nita's closet assembling a new look. Resonance. There was resonance. And right now I'm kind of allergic to Forced Nostalgic Resets, which this feels like it might be. (If someone actually gave an in-character reason for it, then full speed ahead.)

Dur. Really? I thought Monica predated her by lots. Problem is, I read all those by borrowing them from dariodevil and it's hard to do that living a state away so it's hard to refresh memory. :'(

This? Is such a great comment. I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

There was a short overlap with Monica and Angelica being in the Avengers at the same time. I believe it was during the Busiek & Perez run; I'll read it again and confirm, but I SWEAR I remember them being on panel together a few times.

Patsy? Well, as I said above, I can see Monica and Angelica knowing her because of her history. So I buy that the three of them know each other. It's Felicia that puzzles me.

FLAMES ON THE SIDE OF MY FACE, KALI.

Oh, well. At least I can stop feeling guilty about giving Marvel money.

No more Brian, Pete, Dane, Faiza, Jackie, and Blade. :-( I am, however, looking forward to seeing Blade cut loose in this final Dracula arc and slay the shit out of some vampires.

Meggan might be back, too, before it all ends. There've been hints that she will, so we'll see. Paul's LJ entry about the cancellation made me so sad because he writes about how he was prepared for this cancellation from the beginning and crafted his arcs thusly. I know that many comic writers have to deal with the spectre of cancellation, but still, what a sad reminder.

God-damn. I am literally incoherent with rage about this. Not only are they canceling a book that was actually intelligent and thought-provoking, they're killing a book that had a multi-cultural cast that wasn't ALL WHINY WHITE BOYS.

Meggan. <3

I need to stop ranting in my head about this and get back to writing my littlebang fic. *seethes some more*
