In which Jeff Mills catalyzes hand partialism

For the past ten months or so, I've been meaning to do a post about cultural apprehension of music as it pertains to various genres of electronic composition, and in particular about the vastly cerebral vistas of the Detroit and Chicago scenes and how very influential they were in shaping what we think of as techno, house, industrial, etc. (Not a ( Read more... )

Christopher Egan looks and acts far too much like Matt Damon

So, so true.

THANK GOD. IT'S NOT JUST ME. If they'd cast a more charismatic lead, I might be more forgiving of the show, you know?

His facial structure is like a weird Damon/Ledger mishmash-- which distracts me more than the flat acting most of the time.

His hair as David HAS to go. For chrissakes, it looks like he's got HAIR CREAM from the early sixties in there!

Kings is about white men. I didn't even bother.

See, white men are one thing I'm always prepared to watch - the WASPier the better. I got a thing for patrician men. Maybe I should tune in. . .

Finding tv about white males must be so hard for you.

Those Wolverine covers are almost all so bloody astounding that I kinda don't mind slapping them on books that have absolutely nothing to do with Wolverine (variant covers, yeah, but still...). I totally love the Edward Gorey one too.

The only one that outright irks me is the Warhol one. It just reeks of lazy photoshop. Warhol didn't have photoshop, people!

I particularly love the liquid adamantium on the Daliesque cover, and the way that it turns from liquid to solid. Brilliant. And, of course, the maple leaf. But that Klimt cover? With Logan whomping on ninjas (most likely the Hand, methinks)? GORGEOUS.

Pretty, no? The Hulk variants that were done last year were also awesome, but they were more in a 4-color style, whereas these are much more nuanced.

I want a poster of the Klimt-esque one for my living room.

As long as we agree that Ian McShane is the man for life, we are cool re: Kings.

I had a weird ass dream that he was visiting us and was drunk. It was awesome.

Ian McShane won't be the man for life for long until he pulls it together on Kings and starts to chew on the scenery. Because right now all I do is watch the first two eps of Kings and blink and think, "WHERE IS IAN MCSHANE AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH HIM?"
