Don't cut tupils on an angle.

So, tulips continue to elongate after they are cut. Sometimes as much as six inches. I knew about that. But now I have discovered that if you cut tulips on a bias it means they suck up water is a sort of funky way, which means part of the tulip elongates more than the other side, causing them to break, which is really lame. By the time I got home two more stalks have half popped. I don't know. Maybe tulip stems just like to explode?
