Summer of Love!

Sorry for the late post on this, the holiday weekend was KILLER. Enjoy another challenge, all, while we wait for judging on Caitiy's Fairytale Challenge...

Summer of Love Challenge
Summer of Love: A Kakashi X Sakura Classic Romance Fanfiction Challenge

I've always depended on the kindness of fanficcers...

In addition to caitiy 's Fairy Tale challenge (of which I will most likely be particpating),attackofthemary  and I have issued our own challenge, entitled "Summer of Love."

About: Cultures around the world put alot of emphasis on the idea of a 'classic' romance. In America, our idea of classic romance is related to theatre and cinema, as well as novels. We find Wuthering Heights to be a lengthy read, but we love the way it makes us gasp for breath. Modern adaptations of even the most famous tales and play capture our attention.

Rules:

(I munch the heads of those who break rules.)

1. Length must be between 2,000-35,000 words. Multi-chapters are okay but entries will be judged only on what is posted before the deadline.

2. Kakashi X Sakura must be the central pairing. Other pairings within the fic are okay but Kakashi and Sakura must play the lead roles.

3. Your fic must be based on a well-known romantic movie from between the 1920's and the 1960's. Be creative. Do your homework.

4. Entrants must sign up to enter and stake their claim on a film by July 9th. Foriegn entries will be accepted.

5. Violence and character death are permitted as per the film chosen; don't go killing Ino willy nilly because you just think she's annoying.

6. Please remember to give credit where it’s due and mention your source material. Citing should include the name of the film, the date it was released, and the lead roles. Director is not necessary, but appreciated.

7. Ingenuity is key, so rather than pop Sakura and Kakashi in the middle of the plot line, adapt the plot around Kakashi and Sakura. This pretty much follows the trend of past challenges.

8. Smut is permitted, but if some amazing smexing didn't occur in the film, don't put it in your fic. If it is sort of glazed over in the film, that's fine, go nuts. We all love a good read.

9. Please post your entries by midnight EST on August 1st. Trust me, I'll be awake, and reading them, as will Casmeritan (attackofthemary ). I don't require that you email them to me. This is your work, a simple link to ff or your journal is fine. The layout of said blurb should look like this, however: Title, film, year, lead roles, word count.

10. You're allowed some lee-way with situations. If Sakura is supposed to get on a flight for Milan, it's okay to just have her hightail it to Iwa. Any major changes should be directed toward mysef or mary for approval, however.

Date: All entries are due by 12am EST August 1st.

Prizes: The winners of the competition will receive one of these packages:

• First Place: A custom fic from Cashmeritan and Forsakenkalika, with custom kakasaku artwork (on canvas) done by Forsakenkalika, and nifty treats from Japan.

• Second Place: (on paper, treated) A custom Kakasaku work from Forsakenkalika, and Japanese yum-yums

Submitting: posts will do. I'm lazy, y'see. Posts should consist of the title, the author, the film adapted, the lead roles, and the year it was released, as well as word count. Linkage is wonderful, so either link to your journal, personal website, or FFnet.

Posting: Entries will not be accepted after 12am EST August 1st.

Scoring: Scoring will be calculated in two categories:

Open voting (for reader’s favorite prize): In which a poll will be set up to determine the fan favorite. Fan favorites will recieve a mailing of yummy goodness, as well as a custom graphic to post on their site.

Judging (for judges prizes) Judges will give scores from 1 (bad) to 20 (excellent) in each of five categories. These categories are as follows:

I. Grammar, spelling, diction, and overall quality and mechanics of the author’s writing.
II. Adaptation: did the author remain faithful to the plot and thematic content while still adapting it to the Narutoverse?
III. Rule Adherence: did the author follow all of the outlined rules, including citing their source in the author’s note?
IV. General Enjoyability: this is where the judges can be completely subjective and score based off of how much they enjoyed the story.
V. Literary Merit: did the author emulate the film in more than just plot by using higher level writing devices such as fresh figurative language, pun, motifs, symbolism, etc.

These scores will be averaged for each category and added together for a total score that will be used to determine the winners of the judges prizes.

Participants: Comment here to be added to the participant list.

Judges: There are only two judges, three if omizu  isn't too stressed.

Cashmeritan
Forsakenkalika

Contact: Ask questions, we love them. I can be reached here, on aim, and through email at forsakenkalika@rock.com and Cashmeritan can be reached here.

The guidelines were not created by me, but were instead created by someone much more wonderful. I yanked them from caitiy , who had gankified them from someone else, tracing all the way back to alifestylechoice (that I know of)

EDIT - thanks to eldrfire  who put a fire under my butt to edit this. refer to wordlength for alterations. otherwise, nothing has changed. i have been asked about allowing some subject matter that was removed from a film adaptation of a novel. it is fine to use some materials from the novel, only as long as it is necessary to the plot.
