If film choice is a book adaption, written within the time limit, can we use bits from either sources?

This'll be my first time entering one of this pairing's contest, but I like the challenge too much to just lurk! =D

May I claim The Ghost and Mrs. Muir? The film was released in 1947 with the lead role played by Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney.

Because movies adapted from novels tend to cut a lot in order to fit a time frame, elements from both sources will be welcomed.

I'm so very, very tempted to do this challenge, but I can't think of many '30s to '60s era romance films (most of the movies from that period I've seen are either foreign films or film noir). So, to clarify, would something like "Singing in the Rain" count, or does everything have to be based on things similar to "Gone with the Wind"?

They can be anything from standard fluff to romcom and even sappy tragedies, as long as there is a strong romantic theme with the lead characters. Think Cruel Intentions (or Liasons Dangereux), with the death of the female lead at the end.

aw, i would love to do this, but i don't feel comfortable enough with the few romance films from that era i've seen to take inspiration from them. oh well. i'm looking forward to reading everyone else's entries. :)
