A Brief Question

 First of all, feel free to repost this question elsewhere as long as it's traceable back to me.

Logic versus passion.

Spock and Kirk.
Holmes and Watson.

The above are just two of the more prominent examples that come to mind as being ones that people would be most likely to recognize. I'm curious as to why people think the contrast works so well.

Well, I think it works because they mesh. When it's good, it's great. It's a hard balance to work out, as one might be tempted to change the other, but in a stable relationship it's just that, stable.

I always thought of it as a matter of their balancing each other out - one having the impulse to move and take action when it's needed and the other having the knowledge to make the right decision and think things through if they have the time. Thanks for your input!
