A Brief Question

First of all, feel free to repost this question elsewhere as long as it's traceable back to me.

Logic versus passion.

Spock and Kirk.
Holmes and Watson.

The above are just two of the more prominent examples that come to mind as being ones that people would be most likely to recognize. I'm curious as to why people think the contrast works so well.

Other examples from fandoms that I read include Prowl and Jazz from the G1 incarnation of Transformers, Saguru Hakuba and Kaito Kuroba from the Magic Kaito manga, Sam and Dean Winchester from Supernatural, and Tony Stark and Virginia 'Pepper' Potts from Iron Man. I admit that some of the choices are arguable, though - for example, you could also argue Heiji Hattori/Harely Hartwell and Saguru Hakuba from Detective Conan and Dean Winchester and Castiel from Supernatural. I'm mostly noting the examples coming to mind which work in fandom as pairings that I've seen written.

Feel free to argue other combinations and bring up new examples, regardless of fandom.

fandom: star trek (2009 reboot), fandom: magic kaito, fandom: iron man (movie), fandom: sherlock holmes, fandom: transformers (g1), fandom: supernatural, question, fandom: detective conan
