Man, I asked my dad if he'd like me to make something nice for him for Father's Day / his birthday, a cake or pie or something now that I've been doing all this cooking from scratch. He was all for it, but Mom said she'd already bought a box mix and can of frosting

Meh, I hear you on the feeding-somebody-else part. I'd love to be able to live closer to friends so I could cook for them. Anyway, I hope you'll be able to get your chance. :)

Maybe try a non-special day like a random Saturday. Ninja sneak-attack! A fancy decorated scratch cake! Yummy cookies! Or fried chicken and potato salad!
