Honestly? I really dunno D:

I AM NOT FUNNY. READ AT OWN RISKBut hearing Vic Migogna sing (in English) Byakuya~True Light was slightly startling, since I realized for the first time how trite and disjointed the lyrics were. Is it this way for people who actually *understand* Japanese, listening to Japanese anime songs, or am I just jaded? Or is ( Read more... )

But Mulan's "Reflections" was actually somewhat understandable! And "Be a Man" was just fucking awesome! o_o

Vic, however, kinda fails.

He's like the English VA for...every main male character in dubbed anime, apparently, including Ed Elric. But thankfully, not Light.

I'm honestly fine with knowing the translations of songs, but when the song itself is sung in all its...semi-translated stick-to-original-meaning-even-if-the-nuances-don't-exist-in-English glory, then it gets the fuck on my nerves. Like Vic does. D:

Engrish songs are okay if the singer's intentionally being weird, I think, but if they're taking it seriously, *then* it's just bad.

I had the same reaction with the opening song of Kingdom Hearts 2. I found it so pretty in Japanese, and then I played the game in english and was all WTF is that? then I actually payed attention to the lyrics in Japanese, and yeah, it wasn't really all that related to the game, either. BIG DECEPTION.
I still adore the japanese song, though.

...for some reason, I never liked the Japanese version of that song o_o Simple and Clean was the one time I preferred the English version, possibly because I hated Hikaru Utada's voice I listened to the English version first, and there was a particular musical phrase in the English version that was missing from the original. Its omission made the original more...boring.

please don't kill me D:

Ah yes, the first hearing plays a big role, too. I heard it (repeatedly) in japanese before playing the game and was - for some inane reason - expecting them to leave it in japanese. Silly me. So disapointed.

Kill you? I'm not that kind of music elitist D=
