why I am an anime!songfag

Honestly? I really dunno D:

I AM NOT FUNNY. READ AT OWN RISK

But hearing Vic Migogna sing (in English) Byakuya~True Light was slightly startling, since I realized for the first time how trite and disjointed the lyrics were. Is it this way for people who actually *understand* Japanese, listening to Japanese anime songs, or am I just jaded? Or is Byakuya~True Light~ just not the greatest song ever, and I should just accept it and listen to the Japanese version purely for the nostalgia/emotion it evokes, not the meaning?

I guess the reason I like Japanese music/anime so much is because I mainly listen to the vocal inflections and phrasing of the words, and understanding the language itself gets in the way of that. A little understanding is nice - it helps with attributing nostalgia and emotions to the song - but that's different from knowing enough to be able to critique each line of the song and wangst about how the lyrics are illogial or disjointed . This is probably also why I prefer songs that come with Anime openings; the animation provides a basis for what I feel in the song in further listenings, and it's harder to figure out that emotion with just music.

What does this mean? That I'm a terrible sham of a music person and ought to be put to death for having such an attitude towards good music. Probably. D:
