The version I heard is "I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves (repeat 2x) and this is how it goes", which I think scans better than the version you have here.
I miss being silly with my sister. She's all grown up and proper now!
I don't know the tune that you learned, but it doesn't scan better for the tune that I know for "I know a song that annoys everyone." I can't think of other songs that go the tune right now . . .
Oh, yeah, sang it my sister helped me . . .
The one I know goes to the tune of "The Old Gray Mare"
The old gray mare just ain't what she used to be Ain't what she used to be Ain't what she used to be The old gray mare just ain't what she used to be Many long years ago.
Ah, well, yeah, since they are two different tunes, that makes sense . . . yours fits that tune and mine fits the tune I know.
I think it'd be repeated 3x, though, to fit right . . . .
And if you're wondering, yes, I know a silly song more than "John Brown's Body," that's called "John Brown's Baby" and sing it:
John Brown's baby had a cold upon his chest John Brown's baby had a cold upon his chest John Brown's baby had a cold upon his chest and they rubbed it with camphorated oil.
