This is gorgeous, heartbreaking and brilliantly written. I had been thinking of writing something like this that addressed many of these issues, but am so glad that other commitments prevented me from doing so, because yours is so right.

Thank you for including the line from Court Martial. It has always been one of the strongest lines in the series concerning Spock's feelings for Kirk, and is so often overlooked, as is the emotional risk he took to say it in that setting. It made your story perfect.
