Quick--like, in the next two hours or so. I'm going to be buying a new computer tonight. I have to buy it locally, as I need it tomorrow (Mom's computer died, so I'm giving my old one to her for early Christmas; she really can't afford a new one right now ( Read more... )

I'm not sure about processors and so forth, but my main advice would be to get as much memory as you can afford. That's the thing that's made all the difference for me with my laptops over the years.

(I'd also try to avoid Vista if at all possible *g*)

Agreeing so much there, but the extra RAM will help with the Vista-Bloat if she is forced to get it since she has to buy it locally. Sadly, I think anything bought "over the counter" is going to wind up having Vista on it. :/

The processor in my old computer was an AMD and I never once had any issues with it. The current laptop's processor is an Intel Dual Core and I love this one, too. :D

if it's not too late, check out the video card. If you're gonna play games on it, you'll wanna make sure it has a decent card. /end rec
